Of course you can. They just don’t want you to. They are quickly pulling us into the world of thought police and thought crimes. Look at how many people they deem as racist simply because they choose to express a different opinion. You might not be someone who leans to the right, but there is commonality there in that we don’t want the left positioning itself the arbiter of what it deems true and false, and therefore dissent is considered racist or phobic or whatever negative connotations they come up with.

I'm not trying to convince you whether it's a lie or not. I'm just telling it's a fact. The left's foundation in it's current iteration is based to lies and fantasy, some of which have been repeated so much that previously rational people believe it to the point where questioning it seems illogical.

Many of the problems in this country are cultural issues and not issues that stem from some governmental or societal structure actively trying to oppress people or keep them in certain states of disarray.

He needs to provide a list besides police reform where he differs from Democrats. Then we can talk.

Otherwise you’re doing nothing but playing to his ego for attention.

Police reform isn’t going to steer his vote either way.

I agree with all this, but that doesn’t mean I now subscribe to the right’s version of reality. I think the ultimate point of what the left is saying is more correct than not, the methods are my issue. We should all be confident enough in our own beliefs to put them before the court of public opinion for consideration and believe they will win the day.

Attacking people on a personal level who don’t agree with you, in some cases seeking to destroy them, is cultural totalitarianism and a huge problem.

That's why he's on here, and why he started this thread.

Ok. As one of your biggest skeptics, I'll bite.

What area or areas would you like to discuss first?

And I’m not saying you have to

The methods are our issue too. We don’t all have to agree on the same issues, but one side has made it very clear that they are at war with the other. It’s not just a war of words though, it’s a war where they believe they have the right to physical violence, the right to destroy you socially, personally and economically. Nothing is out of bounds. Furthermore it’s condoned by politicians, celebrities, media figures and many news outlets, and just because you might lean left doesn’t mean you are immune from it. The moment you step out of line, you too will become a target. It’s very totalitarian and it always devolves into purging supporters to achieve the purity of ideology. It’s not a right vs left issue anymore. It’s us vs them where you either push back or they win.

The country would be better off with 2 non-nutty parties pulling like a tug of war and ending up in the middle.
Unfortunately, neither side is willing to settle for that.

These days, anyone in the middle is derided for being weak.

You believe 70% of black kids being raised by single mothers isn’t enough? Because that’s exactly what the Left is arguing

You believe police should be defunded and communities “policed” by social justice majors quick response teams? Because that’s what the Left is arguing.

You believe that white people, like all of them, are racist to a destructive degree and need to be confronted about their racism with violence and oppression? That’s what the Left is doing.

You believe a man whose wife posted on Instagram some political comments that didn’t meet with mob approval should be fired, but only after publicly denouncing his wife? That’s what the Left did yesterday.

If you agree with any of this shite, why are you leaving the Democrat party?

No, they are derided for not picking a side. Like it or not, the resistance from the right is the only thing keeping the left from dragging us into total chaos. However, we are hanging on by the skin of our teeth, which brings us to the OP. He’s saying he cannot and will not go down the road the left is taking us and my point to him is that he doesn’t need to go full blown conservative but he better pick a side. You can’t be against being drug over a cliff but stand on the sidelines because you have differences with the people trying to stop us from being drug to our destruction.

Maybe the democrat party left him which is why he switched to independent. Maybe instead of attacking him, embrace the opportunity to find some commonality. He’s surely not the only one the leftist Dems have left in their wake.

Why you had a party affiliation to begin with should have been the first problem.
