I like meat. Meat IS pretty expensive right now.
You can eat healthy without meat, but yuck.
Plus- I already stated the cost of sodas and packaged snack food is much higher.

Regulate snap dont just abolish it
Nobody is abolishing it. The government is shut down. Get 6 dem senators to vote to open the govt.

Snap should be one of the least needed programs in the country to begin with.

Good, healthy food should not be as expensive as it is, and its quite expensive.
SNAP isn't being used for healthy food. It's used for soda, candy, frozen pizza, cookies, chips, etc.

at least 1 month of emergency state level funds should have been budgeted.
Folks in various states are doing what they can. Even Trump found a way to use tariff money to fund WIC. I'm not sure what your "conservative" position is. The party in power voted to fund SNAP at current levels. Just can't get 60 votes in the Senate without - *ahem*, you know.

This bullshite myth needs to end. If broken down on a cost per meal per person, it is no more expensive and in most cases much cheaper. It takes a little more effort and some planning, not more money.
Carbs and fats arent expensive. Good protein is expensive... especially beef.
Still, this problem needs to be systemically addressed.
Teach cooking again in school make home ec mandatory like it used to be.
Many mommas haven't cooked in decades. Feminism has not helped.
I just thing we should look at this thing holistically before just pulling the rug. Thats all im saying.

That’s because of SNAP. If it was a truly capital market there would be less demand and the supply would stay the same. Everything the government tries to subsidize drives the cost up for everyone. Food, health care, education, etc.

No.
We need to go back to government cheese and PHYSICAL food stamps.
Big arse block of cheese
Slab of beef
Slab of bacon
Container of rice
Container of beans
Container of oatmeal
Loaf of bread
And $150 in stamps should be all they get once a month and the stamps can only be used for produce.
There should be both an inconvenience and a stigma for being on the government dole.

Mercy and Subsidies are great, depending on what such creates in those who receive it. And whatever one subsides one gets more of. Therein “one can tell a tree by the fruit that it bears “. Denying the ‘bad’ fruit - for whatever reason - is foolish and ultimately harmful. “A house built on sand” as it were.
I agree with the OP, as a stopgap measure. But a real and highly publicized discussion with the WHOLE truth had better happen soon, or dysfunction and collapse surely will. Hurt feelings or false-pride egos nws.

It's a safety net, not a hammock.
There were multiple threads yesterday with no fewer than a dozen videos of shameless parasites taking to social media not only decrying the pause in the program funding - the frustration is understandable- but demanding that money seized from hardworking taxpayers at the point of a gun is OWED TO THEM.
It gets worse when the moochers would talk about how "it's there for you to use" and "I am not gonna work so long as SNAP is out there".
frick.
That.
No, not every family on snap is like that, but then the new lineup of welfare queens are bragging about THREE GENERATIONS liging of n public assistance - the system is terminally ill and we need to do better to purge it of the sickness.

Good, healthy food should not be as expensive as it is, and its quite expensive. At the very least, we need to find a way to drive the cost of protein down. Just my opinion.
We need to employ people and have them earn money instead of paying them to not work.
Then we wouldn't need all the illegals coming to the is country to do the jobs Americans are paid not to do.

Who is defunding snap?
The shutdown or the able bodied person 80 hours a month work requirement?

Yes... I came into my marriage unable to cook a thing, got some lessons from an elderly aunt.
First pot of rice I made, I had to drain the water. I don't think I had measuring cups at the time and didn't realize I needed them. I was woefully unprepared for homemaking.

because the funds were cut immediately
Let's ignore the philosophical and political merits of the program (why does the government have the right to steal my money and directly give it to others?), but were they really cut immediately? All the news stories months and weeks ahead of the cut off about the looming shutdown weren't warning enough?

So do I and it still cheaper than buying frozen crap if you plan ahead and find stuff on sale. I buy plenty of chicken, beef, and pork and then I use a vacuum sealer to portion it out and put it in my freezers. I made fajitas two nights ago with chicken breasts I bought in May.
