I can agree with a transition period for dependent people to get off them in time.

However, that doesn't seem to be an option so if I have to have one or other other, I say rip the bandaid off.

How much does a dry bag of beans cost these days?

Reality is that inflation has made food too expensive for many Americans.

If given the opportunity to return to pre-covid food prices or keep the current food prices but you no longer have to pay for all the gimmedats out there, which would you choose?

And leg quarters aren't expensive, especially if you catch them on sale.

Good healthy food IS cheap in this country. The average household spends less than 10% of their average annual income on food, and that includes fast food and eating out.How many people really factor in the costs of eating every day. We spend huge amounts of money on everything, but for some reason, we think we should not have to worry about the price of food. The fact is the people in this country are relying on less than one percent of the population to supply them with their most basic need.

Cheaper prices, but this will never be a viable option because they are antithetical.. Food prices here are easily up to 50% higher, thats not reasonable.

One of the reasons food is so expensive is because the govt subsidizes it so heavily. Paying for the ne-er do wells is inflationary.

Cheaper prices,

You likely pay more in taxes to support welfare than you do on how much groceries have gone up since covid, fyi.

Right now I am paying welfare and incredibly high food prices. That doesnt sound very enticing, does it?

The two are intertwined, that is the point.

Nope, but my hypothetical allowed you to nix one, and you chose the least savings option.

That surprised me.

I don't really have a problem with agricultural subsidies, although they definitely need to be cleaned up to cut down on the gamesmanship. SNAP needs to be restricted to staples as an incentive to get a job but realistically I know it won't happen because Walmart and CocaCola and Frito-Lay give money to all sides. And get big returns on that money. From all sides.

I agree... the problem is, we have innocent children who had no say in their creation and who their parents are, caught in the middle of this issue.

Part of the issue we’re facing is this issue is generational. The parents learn it from their parents, the kids learn it from their parents, it’s an endless cycle.

You can get SNAP/EBT/Housing assistance. Don’t have to make your school kids breakfast or lunch, it’s free. Some areas have after school meals.
Summertime when the kids are out of school? There are programs to feed kids.

It’s an endless cycle.

Perfect time to redo it. Make it much harder to get on and exclude the junk food so real workers won't have to pay as much for their healthcare as well.

The market dictates the price.
