The number of illegal immigrant families entering the United States through the U.S.-Mexico border has hit another record, according to numbers released on Tuesday.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the number of migrants traveling in family units has been rising since 2015. But there has been a noticeable spike in such apprehensions in recent months — with a record-breaking 136,150 people caught by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in just the first five months of the fiscal year (October through February).

The prior record was set last year, with 107,212 people traveling in families apprehended over a full 12-month period ending in September.

Not only does that mean the annual record has been surpassed less than half-way through the 2019 fiscal year, The Journal reports that at the current rate, the "number of families arrested at the border could double or even triple the record by September."

During a news conference, U.S. Border Patrol Chief of Operations Brian Hastings said the agency has seen a total of more than 268,000 apprehensions thus far, which is a 98 percent increase compared to the same time period last fiscal year, which saw 136,209.

The Border Patrol also announced that "February 2019 had the highest number of encounters of any February in the last 12 years with more than 76,000 total apprehensions and inadmissible arrivals."

USA Today reported that in the El Paso sector alone — which includes all of New Mexico and some western counties in Texas — apprehensions were up 434 percent from the year before.

In announcing the numbers, CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan told reporters, "The system is well beyond capacity, and remains at the breaking point," The New York Times reported.

McAleenan went on to say, "this situation is not sustainable. This is clearly both a border security and a humanitarian crisis."

Are crossings up or apprehensions up?

And you have to approach this with an absolute distegard for any stats produced by the Obama/Holder/Lynch DOJ.

Crossings during the first 6 months after the election were at or near all time lows.

Then the coyotes (and their Dem/NGO handlers) realized no changes in border security were coming anytime soon so they ramped efforts up.

If you track monthly apprehensions from mid 2018 to present they have been increasing steadily.

This appears to be a case of manufactured crisis by the Dems/NGOs that backfired because now there is a legit crisis and excuse for Trump to declare a national emergency.

NPR just corrected one of their reporters when he misspoke, referring to the border situation as a crisis. “Just to be clear, “ the anchor Mary Louise interjected, “ there is strong disagreement as to whether this is a crisis at the border.” Reporter: “Right...yeah...sorry.”

But I thought illegals didn't come through the border, they come through the ports?

clarify: are these at checkpoints or not? if these illegal crossings are being caught why do we need a wall?

76K in one fricking month. And that doesn’t count the ones we didn’t catch. I wonder what the estimated ratio of caught versus not is.

An entire city worth of illegals is crossing every month and I’m supposed to believe this isn’t a major problem.

Catch and release. They get what they want. They are in the United States.

If you block them from coming to America, there is no catch and release.

In short everyone we catch gets a couple years free stay in the states while their court case winds through the system. That's if they show up for their hearings. And if they have a kid while waiting for their case to work through the system, that child is a citizen. And then chain migration kicks in, because you can't separate families, that would be wrong.

It's all orchestrated to let them be here and stay. That is why they don't even flee border patrol. They just turn themselves in to be released legally into the country.

So think about it, break a law getting into the country entering illegally, get caught, and then get a pass to stay here.

It’s worse than the thousands that cross through the desert. They cry asylum, get released with a court date, and are never heard from again.

Sneaking into the US is easy.

Anybody remember when a spike in unaccompanied minors and mothers at the border was deemed a crisis under Obama?

The only crisis Democrats meant was how to absorb them instead of keeping them out.
