How could they prove that he put the weights in the fish I wonder? That seems ridiculous. That being said, it is fraud if they can prove it. I'm sure he won a considerable amount of money.

Look I can tell from you post that you are a little confused. It is apparent that you think murder is worse than cheating in a fishing contest.
John never comments on things he links. You are probably right but don't expect him to actually tell you what he thinks of the things he links. He's like a seagull, squawk, poop and flies away.

He had a bond of $20K set for that fish as well.

The bonds for these killers? $25K and $5K respectively. Incredible.

It’s more about “shitting” on leniency of judges and the screwed up system

Yeah, sentencing guidelines in this country are fricked up. But at the same time, if this fisherman committed fraud he needs to be held to account. I didn't read the stories. Does anyone know how much he defrauded, if he is indeed guilty?

They got the max sentences for the charges the jury convicted. How exactly was the judge lenient here?

Often times the winners of these tournaments get brand new, very expensive boats and also sizeable checks.

It’s funny we’ve been convinced as a society these people are “judges”.

They are purely political figures acting off personal opinions.

The legal system is a joke and most lawyers are straight trash.

The BS sentences for the murderers is definitely BS. Should be looking at life or the death penalty.

That said, i don't think it's a good juxtaposition against the tournament cheater. Fishing tournaments often involve large cash prizes. Even the big catfishing tourney on the Mississippi last year paid out $100K to the winning boat. People pay good money just to enter those tournaments and cheaters should be punished harshly for defrauding others. The dude shoved tungsten weights into the bellies of every fish he weighed.

But these two cases are so dissimilar that I just believe the contrast isn't even there. Plus, the cheater guy will almost certainly get a bunch of fines, some probation, community service and lose his fishing privileges for several years (if not permanently).

I'm pretty dialed in with the online fishing community and saw the videos of the cheater getting busted at weigh-in. If they'd have turned the other competitors loose upon him, bro would have been killed.
