I support raising the voting age to at least 25.

An age restriction to buy a gun is just ridiculous though.

The military tells you when and where you can use THEIR weapons.

A person does not need a fully developed brain, which happens at about 25, to follow orders in the military.

A pre 25 year old civilian requires restrictive laws since they don't have something like military structure to control their lack of good judgement and experience.

So do civilians, and if you frick up you go to prison or die.

Not a very good comparison.

When exactly do you think this would happen?

Must be 21 or show military ID to purchase a gun.

There fixed it for you

You used to be able to join at 17 with parental consent.

If you actually enter the military you might be a truck driver. Those ones can get a truck class driving license. Not any dangerous weapon of their choosing.
Ditto clerks, cooks, and orderlies.

OK - and if you do, we could grant you those privileges. If you shrink into your safe space when you hear a discouraging word, you won't be in the military - and should not be permitted to own a weapon.

You have obviously never been in a military during a time of war.

If you're old enough to buy a hunting rifle, you're old enough to buy an AR-15.

Put civilians through that kind of training and I have no problem giving weapon to an 18 year old.

That's a very good point.

I am fine with this proposal, although I would amend slightly.

Voting, AR 15 owning, and Free speech rights in the form of protest permits don’t exist till you’re 21.

The exception to the above is military service, which should allow all 3 fundamental rights at 18, along with drinking a beer.

You mean like the soldier who have been discharged after shooting up a village? I dont see how it's any different.

Eh. The federal age to purchase a hand gun is already 21. This isn't much of a jump.

We've heard this argument used before when it comes to voting rights. I'd be OK with 18 year old being able to buy alcohol, handguns and high caliber, semi-automatic rifles IF they actually JOINED the military. Make the sacrifice, reap the rewards....

I didn't read your reply before I posted but I see we're on the same page.

Wasn't the guy from the church shooting here in Texas a vet?

Maybe that plan won't work as well as you think. I saw plenty of frickups in the military when I was there.

unless you are a total retard or very desperate to join and don't care what your job.

A majority get to pick their job before joining and sit around for months for a slot to open before going to basic training.

I waited 9 months.
