re: If we could peacefully split into two nations, would y’all be in favor of it?

Confederacy always knew that secession would not be peaceful
There was roughly 4 months of peace after SC seceded. Lincoln chose to escalate the situation. The CSA could see his intentions and knew there would be conflict.
But the right to peacefully secede was widely accepted by many at that time, even by ardent abolitionists.

And then those 2 nations could split in 20 years, and so on and so on.

No. Part of our might is the amount of sheer resources we have. You also give up our geographical advantage as you now, potentially, have another adversary right next to you.

Exactly. It makes about as much sense as saying we should terraform and move to mars because the earth is gonna be inhabitable.

Why would you desire to share a border with Cuba or South Africa?
Exactly.
And the same people saying things like, "Yeah, and we'd have all the military and the guns," apparently can't think forward far enough to realize that a country that we shared a direct border with that was unable or unwilling to defend itself just represents a matter of time before instead we have China living next door. And probably to the north as well. Without our military might to deter it, Canada would be easy to take over. They have fewer than 70,000 active troops.

What exactly would change about our military mite? Can you name a single thing that would change about how America would militarily?

This is so asinine. It would still be America. The South would not just allow China to invade the West coast. Literally nothing would change.
We are talking about governing laws and values governing two different regions, with the same treaty that we have right now with Canada. If China invades Canada right now, what would America do?

No. It isn’t geographically or logistically feasible anyway as you pointed out.
Why anyone would want to be weaker, poorer, and worse in every measurable way as a nation, I’m not sure.

You realize how many more conservatives there are in California than Louisiana?

Seriously? Everything would change

No. There is a law abiding left and right, and then there is domestic terrorism that has been allowed to flourish for way too long.
We should take preventative measures to prevent people from being zombies instead of just giving them their own land.

quote:That's not what the 3/5ths compromise was about. The southern democrats fought and lost a war trying to keep their slaves. The newly freed slaves (if they were counted for representation) would have given the southern democrats MORE power in in the house of representatives, since the democrats were still in charge in the south. Hell Alabama had democrats in charge of the state house/senate from reconstruction to 2010. The 3/5ths compromise throttled the southern democrats power increase. In my opinion, the former slaves should have been allowed to vote and run for office and anything else as a free person but should not have counted for representation for a period of time (say 10+ years). Counting them for representation only increased the southern democrats political power, helping the former slave owners.
Remind me again who didn't consider slaves as a complete human, but only 3/5 of a human?

That’s only a small percentage. Most have been having God brainwashed out of them since communism

How is that remotely relevant to my post?
Any division of the US will result in pieces that are poorer, weaker, and worse in quality of life than before. Besides, any division will still have the exact same political divisions we currently have. There is no geographic way to divide the country on political lines. Even the most red or blue states have 40% minority political populations.

Russians are conservative Christian people that don’t take shite from illegal immigrants. Europe could use some of that right about now.
Most Russians couldn’t give a frick about religion and they are only conservative insofar as they are nationalists.
They also have huge internal migration issues with their Muslim and tribal minorities, which is a non-insignificant part of their population.

I prefer we go back to strong federalism - but I think that is impossible now.
Posted on 9/16/25 at 12:09 pm to Uga Alum
Just make them leave, forcibly if we have to.

Yes this is the hard truth.
