I don’t think anyone is saying only “the dead guy” was at fault. Those cops were barbarians. I think objective people can see that Nichols was resisting and the cops also assaulted him after that. Both are true.

I think we are also going to find out this guy died from an underlying condition. People have taken beatings way worse than that and not died from organ failure.

What was his criminal history? I don’t think we saw that reported yet.

Other than an alleged illegal lane change, what other scumbag behavior was he known to engage in?

Based on what?

This is what real racism looks like. The word is so overused to be almost meaningless, then a post like this comes along and proves that while overused, it's still accurate in certain cases.

Now his families will just get a lot of money, a lot of Memphis cops are going to leave or retire,

Unlike Alton Sterling, Michael Brown, and George Floyd, this is that one where the family should get paid.

And bad cops should leave or retire. Unfortunately good ones will too. But that’s what happens when you enable a culture of bad behavior.

I have a lot of sympathy for Nichols. He is reported as liking skateboarding and photography. He was supposedly driving back from a park where he was taking pictures of the sunset. Seems like he was probably an odd quirky guy who responded badly to a stressful situation and had the bad luck of running into some assholes with badges.

Amen

It’s also borderline racist to act like any rational human being would know how to properly react to the police in a situation like this because it’s usually not even in the realm of possibility that the ones making these statements could ever find themselves in a similar situation

The other cases I’m aware of with white guys being treated by the police similar to this case also ended up with them dead. The Daniel Shaver case and that one kid killed in the hotel hallway.

Sometimes it’s just best to not try to rationalize a situation that has zero excuse to it

I haven't seen anything that indicates the guy was any different from any other upstanding law-abiding citizen just like most of you reading this post.

No criminal record, good job, not committing a violent crime. He could be you or I.

When was the last time you went to a park to take pictures of the sunset? It’s not something most people do. Not saying he was a criminal but he seems a little quirky.

As an amateur photographer, more often than most.

ETA: I'm lucky I didn't get beat to death by the cops for it

Maybe. Maybe not. Given how poorly these cops behaved certainly far from a given. His life was in the cops hands, not the other way around.

No you're not. Youre going to find out he died at the hands of overbearing government.

Photography was his hobby. Are you being serious?

I’ll refrain from name calling you and insulting, because I feel like this has to be pure ignorance instead of malicious spitefulness

Underlying condition is irrelevant. This is about the beating.

Based on fighting cops and fleeing.

If you see me on camera fighting the police and running. Then you can call me a scumbag. It’s okay, I won’t think you are racist.

You people are ridiculous. I’m not blaming Nichols in any way by saying he seemed like an interesting person. You people are like women with your emotions making any logical thinking impossible.

Why would I do that if you're justified?
