Independent studies put the Muslim pop at 32-40% in Iran. It’s their government who claims 99%

Wikipedia says that both official and unofficial sources (like the CIA) put the number at 90-95% Shia muslim and 5-10% Sunnit Muslim.

I suppose the number could be lower but I'd like to see the "studies" you're claiming.

That’s because the Islamic regime told everyone to convert to Islam or die. The underground population of Christians, Jews, Catholics, Baha’is, Protestants, and other religions is estimated around 3 million but it’s not truly known as the number could be higher.

Big if, but if they do wrestle control of the country from the Islamist, I think they should literally bulldoze every single Mosque in Iran and either deport or imprison most of the Muslim population that kept them enslaved for almost 5 decades.

Did know that Iran is almost entirely Muslim?

Try 40%.

A minority group took control.

Where did this mythology that Iran wasn't extremely Muslim prior to the revolution come from?

Almost 97% in 1945 and 95% in 1950

Yeah, in 650 AD

Then almost 1000 years later, they converted to the Shia variety, so they were DOMINANTLY Shia for about 300 years prior to the revolution in 1979.

Hardliner clerics took control. Not some minority group. Where did you people get your information?

That’s what the Muslim dictator tells you.

It’s crazy seeing the people spew their propaganda.

You're pivoting. Let's clarify what you said. When you posted

quote:

When did this event take place? Are you referencing the 1979 revolution?

Like everywhere else in the world. Some aren’t as fanatic about their religion as others. There are millions of “non practicing” Muslims all across the world. Just as there are millions of Catholics who only go to church on Christmas and Easter.

Legacy religious numbers as a result of the Twelver Shia Islam under the Safavid dynasty. The forced conversions began for almost two hundred years but a significant percentage of the population was non-Shia. Having said that the cities (Tehran, Tabriz, etc) were pretty diverse religiously but it was the rural areas that were very Islamic (Shia or Sunni). The revolution took place when the inbreds from the rural areas took over the cities.

Oh so you knew this.

But yeah, let’s go with 99% being correct.

Makes total sense.
