Because the DNC changed the rules for this very reason they can install someone without anyone raising a fuss as long as it’s after the convention.

he and his handlers knew how awful and unlikeable Kamala is, which prevented the DNC at large from moving to replace Biden. The DNC knows that Kamala is even more of a disaster than Biden, so Biden is safe.
Had Biden selected a more viable VP he would be in trouble.

Sacrifice Biden to absorb all the slings & arrows of the campaign, then parachute a fresh candidate in at the end.

It's not about the Republican options - we're just a deeply divided country.
Elections will be close for the foreseeable future.
Give the GOP about 200 EVs, the Dems about 200 EVs, and presidential elections will be determined by the following states:
Michigan
Wisconsin
PA
Arizona
Georgia
North Carolina
Nevada

Not gonna happen for several reasons.
Less than 6 months til the election, the Dems are stuck with Biden. The time to execute an exit strategy was last summer.

Make no mistake that if Biden had selected Amy Klobuchar or Pete Buttigieg as his VP instead, they would have invoked the 25th on August 15th 2021 over his cowardice in Afghanistan. It was a smart insurance policy in retrospect for Biden.

Because if they decided months ago then Biden would probably have to step down and put Kamala into the office, then you would have a mess because they dont want her there and putting Newsom as the nominee when she was the "incumbent" what a disaster.
If he quietly decides he is "too tired" to run again, they bring in Newsom as the nominee, and he can roll with it, and Biden can just ride out the next couple of months like he has the last 3 and a half years.

The problem is with Dominion they could swap in another candidate the day before the election, get 90 million votes, the media would call it the most honest and secure election ever and the republicans would just shrug and walk away.
