If Speaker Johnson extends FISA should he be jettisoned?

I think most America First/MAGA types want FISA terminated.
Currently there are two proposals by the R controlled House that are supposedly going to prevent the FBI/DOJ from abusing the FISA courts to surveil Americans but many Americans believe the trust in FISA is gone after Trump and others were illegally surveilled by the FBI.
It's being reported on Real America's Voice that Johnson will propose an extension......doesn't sound too America First/MAGA to me, my guess is, if Johnson goes down this road he too will face a similar fate as McCarthy.

Hell... they'd be stupid to do that.... it was hard enough to get HIM confirmed. Would they be TRYING to ensure a democrat speaker?

Curiously, Trump isn't among us.

That would be deeply disappointing. Has Johnson called out DOJ/FBI abuse in the past, do you know?

So you're ok with the people currently in charge of the FISA process and the FISC?

don't you understand no matter what nothing is going to change? They're all 100% controlled. you could put an empty chair up as the speaker and the results will be the exact same thing.

But forget Trump, I've tried to tell y'all this America First/MAGA movement is 100x bigger than Trump, Trump has one more shot and it's next man up....are you ok with Johnson extending FISA?

Didn't say that...
Just that hell... they barely got him confirmed... you dump him and nobody else will put their name in the pot to be speaker and you'll end up with a Democrat speaker in charge of the agenda. As usual, the Republicans would be shooting themselves in the foot.

I guess we're at the place in US history where we find out who wants to stand in the breach and fight for the constitutional republic and for America First.

He probably knows the reality: that there is not enough votes to rein it in. And certain people from the intelligence agency apparatus and Pentagon are probably sending him very clear warnings to not go down that path.
A secret court with secret proceedings is absolutely toxic and ripe for abuse and unaccountability, as has been evidenced over the years.
But the government is never letting that power go. It’s too much power to voluntarily give up.

I assume there are some "conservatives" in this thread who believe the FISA fiasco against Trump and anyone closely associated to Trump's campaign and administration was fine because it was against Trump.
The truth is Wray and the DOJ have used FISA to spy on a lot of Americans for political purposes.

This is Johnson's opportunity to stand on principle....and the stand in the breach.

Trump's not the one who can stop the abuse and only congress can authorize FISA. My guess is Trump had no clue about the extent of FISA abuse when he was president like he does and we do now. Do you think today Trump is ok with extending FISA today?

Some new Greenwald videos today talking about the largest expansion to domestic surveillance since the Patriot Act. I believe this may get a vote as soon as tomorrow. Not quite sure on that part.
In one video he speaks with Sen. Mike Lee, who is opposed to this expansion.
SUMMARY: FISA is up for renewal and currently it is proposed to extend it till April 2024. There are reform bills from various committees such as Judiciary and Intell. The bill from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence is not a reform but a massive expansion to warrantless domestic spying. Details below but all of this is to game the system and insure massive warrantless spying well into 2025 even if FISA is not renewed. If this is passed, they are going to spy on everyone at all times in every possible way.

Greenwald with Sen Lee, Youtube 14 min
Greenwald - When interviewing Thomas Massie he said that the House Intel Cmte was looking at changes to surveillance (FISA stuff), and they just released a Bill that is not a reform but an increase to the surveillance state and far worse. What would it do?
Lee - House Intel bill extends authorization for FISA 702 for 9 years. Does so without any real requirement for warrants. It claims to have a warrant provision but the warrants are only needed for a very narrow search. In section 504 of the bill, there is a vast magnification of domestic surveillance capability to collect warrantless search without probable cause, by expanding reach of 702 into things like public wifi, hotels, bookstores, and things like that. Intel agencies could go to these public wifi stations and demand, without any warrant, all of the data. This bill is a trojan horse.
Greenwald - We keep getting confirmation of abuse of these programs and every year the FBI and others come and say they need re-authorization and when questioned they say "don't worry we instituted internal reforms". Then the cycle repeats.
(my note - They then discuss some of the abuses such as backdoor searches of people in Congress, and millions of searches of American citizens of communications stored by the NSA under the auspices of 702. If they want to search for something using the phone number or email address etc of an American, it should require a warrant. But they don't get one. Wray will try to say that abuses took place before internal controls but they have proven that to be a lie. One of things they do is target foreign nationals, knowing they communicate with an American that they really want to snoop on. They use 702 to pull the comms of the foreign parties and in the process grab all the comms of the American. This is done without a warrant.)
Greenwald - is there a chance for bipartisan effort to block re-authorization?
Lee - Yes but I have some worries like the temporary extension to April of next year. We need to stop that. There is a certification put in by the FISA court that runs for 365 days, so in theory that means FISA actions could run from April 2024 to April 2025 even if FISA technically has expired. (my note WTF? this is new news to me). We need to at a minimum put in a provision that stops this certification and de facto extension.
Lee gives more examples of people abusing 702, such as a guy that suspected his dad of having an affair so he did warrantless spying on his own father to see if he was cheating on his mom. For those that think this stuff isn't going to be pointed at them Lee says, "It's eventually coming to you."
Here are the members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where this expanded surveillance plan is coming from:
Republicans
Mike Turner, OH-10, Chairman
Brad Wenstrup, OH-2
Chris Stewart, UT-02
Rick Crawford, AR-01
Elise Stefanik, NY-21
Trent Kelly, MS-01
Darin LaHood, IL-16
Brian Fitzpatrick, PA-01
Mike Gallagher, WI-08
Austin Scott, GA-08
French Hill, AR-02
Dan Crenshaw, TX-02
Mike Waltz, FL-06
Mike Garcia, CA-27
Democrats
Jim Himes, CT-04, Ranking Member
Andre Carson, IN-07
Joaquin Castro, TX-20
Raja Krishnamoorthi, IL-08
Jason Crow, CO-06
Ami Bera, CA-06
Stacey Plaskett, VI-AL
Josh Gottheimer, NJ-05
Jimmy Gomez, CA-34
Chrissy Houlahan, PA-06
Abigail Spanberger, VA-07
Note Plaskett on there. She's not even a legitimate member of Congress as she does not represent a district from a state, yet she's on this incredibly powerful committee.
Sound the alarm and call your congressional members. This is wholesale domestic spying. Think of all the ways they will interpret things like 'public wifi' and how this will be abused and weaponized.
