If society isn’t going to do anything about crazy people having guns then the only answer

If society isn’t going to do anything about crazy people having guns then the only answer is to have an armed and trained populace.
No amount of or kind of gun laws are going to prevent a person from obtaining a gun and shooting up the place.
If a potential shooter or other deadly attacker can expect immediate return fire then there will be a lot less mass shootings and if one occurred it would end quickly.
I see no other solution.

That's a great idea as long as the citizen preventing the would be attacker is not white. Lord help the white man that shoots a nonwhite to protect the lives of others. I've seen that movie too many times and know how it'll end.

Society is so fricked in the head these days that an inanimate object - a firearm - is demonized and the most dangerous animate objects, people who are repeat violent criminal offenders, are coddled “‘cuz it ‘jus ain’t fair”.
