As long as BR is the state Capitol, money (and therefore people) will flow in at a steady pace. That’s true with every state and national Capitol.
LSU is a huge economic driver, but it’s not the only game in town.
You guys act like LA is Plymouth Rock. In a time where the feds and globe is doing is damndest to eliminate the industry which keeps us afloat that is a real naive belief. CRIME can bring any person, place, or thing down.

Already exited. Could not raise my kids in BR. It’s a violent cesspool and LSU is a woke joke.

A city requires more than plant jobs and LSU football to attract and retain talent and families
Well the population continues to grow.
So looks like you wrong.
You also ignore the other sectors I listed.
Also as I said. Your argument is idiotic anyways.
No matter what happens with crime LSU is going nowhere.
Even IF that were to somehow happen or enrollment started to dwindle
The state government is going nowhere.
Exxon is not closing down the fifth largest refinery in the country.
Our lady of the lake will not shut down.
All of those are white collar jobs that are not and will not go anywhere and continue to attract young professionals with no ties to LSU who may not splatter paint on canvases but can support an economy.
Sorry your wife wears the pants in your family and forces you to live in a place you clearly don’t like

BR's population has been flat for 30 years.

A hospital and state offices are not sectors of note. When government offices and the hospital are coming up as arguments of the strength of a city, it is pretty sad.

State government offices + crime do not equal a healthy city.

Probably not. I never said the entire city will disappear.

Pointing to the city's hospital again is just pitiful.

Creative types, "arts and entertainment" in a city does not mean fine art painters.

Not sure why you feel the need to take personal jabs. She'd move tomorrow if I said let's go. She regrets moving here for school and getting us "rooted" here. We're actively working on freeing up those roots to get out.

If LSU and the City-Parish didn't do anything serious to address this issue when a member of LSU's basketball team was murdered, they never will.
And people like Eric Reid wanted to defund the police instead of talking about an LSU athlete being murdered by a black guy.

With 222,185 people, Baton Rouge is the 2nd most populated city in the state of Louisiana out of 488 cities. But watch out, Baton Rouge, because Metairie with 138,511 people and Shreveport with 184,021 people are right behind you.

Healthcare is one of the the biggest industries in this country.
OLOL is the biggest hospital in the state and FMOL is headquartered in Baton Rouge.
Ignoring the sector proves your ignorance.
They attract MDs MBAs JDs CPAs etc.
Many of which have zero ties to LSU

= my argument got destroyed.
If LSU was all the city had then Baton Rouge would be the size of Auburn Alabama or Starkville Mississippi. For better and for worse LSU could leave Baton Rouge and it would still be a major area of commerce for the state.
As for population
Similar to comparable cities in the region.

Those exist everywhere in direct proportion to the population. Here more-so because we’re not a healthy population. Olol is not a Mayo Clinic type destination facility. It gets the gunshot victims with no insurance.

The murder of this student is really tragic. It makes me sick. I know that everyone is infuriated over the senseless of the crime, as am I. However, in terms of student victims/crime on campus, LSU is not even in the top 50 of crimes involving the campus or students nor the Top 100 in crimes against females. I know it doesn’t fit the narrative, but 2 schools mentioned in this thread as safer alternatives for poster’s children both rank higher in on campus crime and crimes against females ( Texas a&m and Auburn). Both located in much smaller towns and less crime in those cities but students are more likely to be victims of crime. Texas A&M is #1 for crimes against females!! So, I get it. Baton Rouge is in a bad state and people are worried and upset and this young woman’s death was so senseless and horrifying but LSU students are no more at risk that any other college students anywhere. LSU needs to take a cue from USC and literally block the campus with controlled entrances. A little harder to do with highland and Nicholson but USC is in the middle of some of the worst gang areas in the country and have improved their crime rates dramatically with more campus security, restricted access to dorm parking lots, etc.

out of state applications and admissions continue to go up which means more tuition with the out of state fees
That's not how out-of-state tuition works. LSU gets the same amount whether the out-of-state student pays the entire cost or the state supplements (from the tax pool) up to the total cost for the instate student. Out-of-state tuition is the real cost to attend. Since the out-of-state student has not paid taxes -- in this case to Louisiana -- he/she is not eligible for instate supplement. This is why private university tuition seems so much higher. The student has to pay the entire amount of tuition as state sponsored supplement doesn't exist.

So much wrong with this post. Two of the larger refineries in the county have already been closed in Louisiana. Nationally, the Left has declared war on fossil fuels, and locally, Soros funded Together Baton Rouge and Together Louisiana have declared war on Exxon. Exxon took a a $9 Billion plant to Texas due to the atrocious legal and tax climate in Louisiana, a concern about having enough skilled workers to staff it, and a trial lawyer Governor that was indifferent at best. Last week another of our local scholars Trudy White threw out all the permits lawfully granted for a different $9 Billion investment because a small vocal group of her people claim they were being unfairly burdened by all these plants, no matter who was there first or not. Other investments in the only industry the state can attract are under attack by the Green Army and permits being delayed and challenged at every turn. And many, if not most, of the professional jobs in the area rely on these plants, including the millionaire shysters suing the trucks hauling their products and the billboard company being paid to post their pictures.
OLOL? Oh LOL. A glorified Charity Hospital now, and who will be left to pay the bills when the jobs are gone?
Yes, some form of our horribly bloated state government will always be here. Welcome to Jackson MS II.

LSU enrollment is thriving. You’re a frickin moron if you think lsu is going to die.

BR has long been dead.
Why do you think people moved out of the parish.
Now the white Pearl clutching liberals finally admit most of the parish and city is dangerous.
FYI, Government street was never safe. Downtown is not safe. Mid city, Garden district, LSU, especially sherwoood & Broadmoor, Tara & Bocauge, and even Perkins Rd in Southdowns is dangerous.
This just opens up peoples eyes.

I was born and raised in Baton Rouge. I love my hometown and I haven’t lived there in almost 2 decades, yet still miss BR. I always will.
BUT, I will never raise my children in South Louisiana. Period.

My aunt and uncle loved Baton Rouge and lived in the Sherwood Forrest area since the 60's. Most of my family is from Shreveport, so we all went to LSU, but after college, everyone left the area to get a good job. My uncle passed away last year and my aunt this year, so there's no one in the family left there.
With LSU hiring a woke, militant leftist to run the university, there's nothing there for me anymore. I still love Louisiana and LSU, but it's the memories I love, not what's currently going on.
