In all this arguing over the photo finish of who’s the biggest idiot, have none of you noticed that the app is over 9 years old?

Literally launched during the Obama administration, and yet it can still outrage.

SMDH.

If only you got a notification about that damn school zone.

Ready to admit that it did make the city safer yet?

How can I be against something that I didn't know existed?

Not at all. ICE is still able to arrest anyone they want to.

It doesn’t matter! The tool is the same!

Where is it illegal to carry the tools without the intent to commit a separate crime? I mean LA doesn't even have this crime anymore, but our old law required possession AND intent to commit burglary. It only worked with both.

So yes, the tool is the same. You have to add another variable to make that work, which isn't relevant to our discussion.

If this doesn't reduce the chances that ICE can arrest someone, then why does it exist? What DOES it do?

I don't care, honestly. I'm in favor of First Amendment protections.

No where. Which is why the intent matters.

Like Waze is intended to get you from A to B as quickly as possible. It is not intended to give you The locations of police, even if that is something you can do. It is a byproduct of the intended usage.

Ice block is used SOLELY to know if heat is in the area so you can take preventative measures.

So yes, the tool is the same.

Yes. I know. Just like the tool of mass public information gathering.

How you use that tool defines if the situations are the same.

A licensed locksmith using a lock picking tool to unlock someone’s house for them is no where near the same as a burglar using lockpicking tools to break into the same home.

JUST LIKE WAZE AND ICEBLOCK USING THE SAME TOOL FOR DIFFERENT INTENDED PURPOSES.

I’m glad you finally came around and admitted that I am correct.

Thank you for your time.

Then use your first amendment right and admit you took an emotional position re: school speeding tickets and you were wrong.

You were arguing that it doesn't inhibit ICE arrests, though.

Now you're crawfishing to first amendment.

Can you at least be intellectual honest and admit that yes, this does inhibit ICE arrests, however minor?

Or are you going to keep playing 80IQcubby like you always do?

You're describing different functionality as some weird intent thing.

Waze is a multi-functional app. It's "intent" isn't simply "to get you from A to B as quickly as possible." That's a construct you used to build the rest of your argument.

Waze is an app with multiple potential functions. One is to give efficiency advice on trave. One is to warn of LEO/checkpoints. It also gives you your speed, directions, maps, etc. There is not one specific use case.

I'm not crawfishing. The First Amendment is what protects activity like this. It protects people from the government.

It could inhibit an agent whose game plan is to wander around a neighborhood and racially profile people in hopes of stumbling upon an undocumented immigrant.

That….. quite literally is the soul function of the app……..

Waze was created to improve navigation and reduce traffic congestion by leveraging real-time data from its users

Nope. Waze is quite literally designed for the sole purpose of getting you from a to b in the quickest most efficient way.

All of the things you have listed are features of the intended design and purpose of the app, to get you from point a to point b as fast as possible using mass publicly sourced information.

Ps. Is it potty time? Don’t want you to have an accident.

How can ICE arrest someone who was tipped off and left 5 minutes before they got there?

Gives ice the information they are now legally in possession of because a bunch of illegals pressed “accept” on the terms and conditions when they downloaded the app

That would be Mossad/IDF level stuff. I don't think we are at that level yet, but there could be some fast learners left over from Elon's exit.

The Corps had better get those Apps down or they will end up owning the first ambush.

You'd have a point if cops radaring were attempting to serve arrest warrants.
