Nuts. I paid for a roof replacement two years ago. No insurance. I went to one contractor and told them I don’t want any illegal immigrants working on my property. It wasn’t the least expensive quote, but I will not subsidize illegals and contractors who use them to the detriment of Americans. That’s me.

Not Miami. Wilton Manors, a tiny municipality in Fort Lauderdale (Broward County, not Dade.) Not that it makes any difference, but that town is way more liberal than most of Miami.

Who me? How was I supposed to know. It's called E Verify and he knows damn well what he's doing. When your average guy makes $25 hour but Jose just gets $7.50? And doesnt have taxes taken out. He may be illegal.

That's not how it usually works. They are contracted through hispanic-only temp agencies (want to know what your Catholic refugee NGO's are up to). The agencies "verify" their legality, so the employer has no concerns. By the time the employer pays the agency the amount that has been grossed up for taxes and margin, they cost as much as the black guys you got from the other temp agency. One good thing about the illegals is that they show up every day. They don't just take off when they're not feeling it. And they don't have to have off for a court appearance once every damn month. That's why the employers keep hiring them.

A friend of mine had a lot of work done on his house a few years ago. I went out there with him a few times. Almost every crew has one guy who speaks English (barely) and six or seven people who speak nothing but Spanish. The general contractor was out there every time I went out there. They know. They all f*cking know.
This a$$hat is pretending like he doesn’t know anything about what’s going on. How about you make sure that none of your subcontractors are hiring f*cking illegals. Otherwise, your a$$ goes to f*cking jail.

Those agencies provide plausible deniability also. They need to start arresting these contractors, then find out who these agencies are and fine them so much that they have no choice but to shut down. Now that DOGE is cracking down, none of these agencies should be getting taxpayer money. Cut the head off of the snake.

I needed a new roof a couple of years ago after a hurricane. I hired a local company but I think the crew had eaten supper in Matamoros, Mx the night before. They did a good job and actually did some extra things. I tipped them and they made the sign of the cross. At least they were appreciative. I think a lot of construction crews and home reair companies employ a lot of illegals.

I agree, don't hire illegals. I do want to say that when we hire people the govt website will often say "you can hire them but we can't provide any evidence that they are legitimate at this time". That sucks bc we are trying to follow the rules but the damn govt can't get their crap together. How can the law abiding citizen follow the law if the law can't give legit info? I don't want to hire any illegals.
