Mother in law recently sent me 4 cloth masks. Tried them out yesterday. Chin sweat when I was working in close proximity to someone else outside was annoying. Glasses always fogging up. I’ll wear it when required at work. But these kinda suck. The outside thing won’t happen often. Not my job to sweat at all (I’m an IT guy)..was just moving some stuff that came in on truck because the guys whose job that is were being slow.

Guess you won't wear a helmet when riding your motorcycle or seatbelt when driving your car either.

My emergency room doctor friend had a name for a helmetless bike rider. - Organ donor.

This is the price you pay for choosing to live in a state that would elect a total POS like Keith Ellison.

Yes... because those two are so comparable to wearing a mask in public.

For shits and gigs: What do YOU think the chance is of contracting Wu Flu when out in public? Indoors and/or outside?

So how come Japan has only 500 deaths in a country of 128 million? BTW Tokyo is far more dense than NYC.

I would imagine no other country has a higher percentage of their population that wears masks.

Does a NYC subway count? How bout a meat processing plant?

But I do think the odds are slim to none at a park or at the beach.

Maybe because they are probably the cleanest people on Earth? Have you heard of the 7 minute train cleaning ritual they perform?

Their public transportation is NOTHING like ours, and they wash their hands with extreme diligence. There is really no comparison between the two countries as it pertains to communicable disease spread.

Not true.

I like to see which of my neighbors is an idiot when they're wearing them while driving a car... alone.

But they are definitely useless in the car alone.

Is there a stat for that?

So masks in public have absolutely NOTHING to do with their success? Why do they wear them? Are they just painfully stupid?

The number of people who think they are smart or clever by pointing this out, might be dumber than the people wearing masks in the car.

If you want to properly use a mask to maximize any benefit it might provide, it should be put on at home before you leave the house. It should not be touched or removed until you are back home. It should be thrown away and you should wash your hands before you touch anything else. If it’s a cloth mask theres no way the user is making it sterile again so it should be thrown away too, but it won’t, so stop using cloth masks.

I don’t believe the majority of people driving with masks on are doing it for the above (and correct) reasons.m. But the person making fun of them is too dumb to realize that anyone wearing a mask should be doing so in their car too. The mask-on-in-car people are doing the right thing even if they don’t know it.

Yes, the stat that shows Japan has very few communicable disease issues of any kind.

There are a lot of reasons Japanese people wear masks... health concerns is one very small part of it.

You answered your own question. There is literally NO ONE who is doing this, so yes, when I see people driving in cars with a mask on, I know they're dumb.

And it reinforces the reason that masks are useless... NO ONE in public is "using" them properly anyway, regardless of the other reasons it's useless.

You don't understand people very well. Though, being a leftist, you are very obedient to government. I don't care who "demands" i wear a mask, Karen. My body, my choice.

"Culture Trip"??? Are you really
using as a source? Ok I'll use this source "1 reason is health" Another article

quote:

The Japanese told me they wore masks because they didn’t want to share their sniffles with anyone else, and to avoid the latest bug spreading through Tokyo’s packed commuter trains
Another Dr's observation
Dr. Saito said that part of Japan’s seeming resistance to infection may result from measures common in the culture, including frequent hand-washing and bowing instead of shaking hands. People are also much more likely to wear masks on trains and in public spaces

I know it's not "Culture Trip" and 20 something tourist saying this but I'm more inclined to go with what the Dr observed.

So are you saying the wearing of masks have nothing to do with Japan's success?

Yes or No?

Cool, so both of the articles you linked also pointed out health as one reason among many. So our articles (and my knowledge of Japanese culture) agree.

Yes, I'm saying wearing masks has nothing to do with Japan's Wu Flu numbers.

Sounds like people need to grow up. If you need to be told that this is for everyone's benefit then its no wonder the government wants to treat you like a child... You basically are one at that point.

Governor Honor Code refers to mask wearing in every conference and describes it as being a good neighbor. I am a bad neighbor.

A pair of old underwear makes for a good mask. If it is slightly discolored, it will help with social distancing.

I am not wearing a mask. I don't give a darn what position the government takes on the matter. I am not wearing one.
