I love Dennis Quaid's comment on Trump. Sure he can be outspoken and turn some people off, he can be an arsehole...but he's MY ARSEHOLE.

You mean the "scandal" where he sold a few pew pews to Iran in exchange for American hostages to fund a fight against Communists in the western hemisphere?

Do you know why Iran Contra happened? Because Democrats in Congress slipped an amendment into the Defense Appropriations act that forbid America from helping the anti-communist Contras. That's right, they were willing to hold up funding for OUR military DURING THE COLD WAR to help COMMUNISTS in the western hemisphere. The were so pro-USSR that they completely disregarded the Truman doctrine in our own backyard. That's the kind of people Reagan was negotiating with.

If Reagan had been in office in 79, the Shah probably would have never fallen and we wouldn't have the problems we have with Iran now, but a weak Democrat sat by and watched the fanatics take over. Same weak Democrat that sides with the Palestinians now.

Regan was a pretty mediocre president at best. Im not sure why this board likes him at all. He unbalanced the budget, MIC promoter to the extreme, was extremely interventionist internationally, immigration was expanded.....

We were in the middle of this thing called the Cold War, and the fact that our MIC was so strong was one of the reasons the Soviets realized they were fighting a losing battle.

We were in this thing called the Cold War, fighting against people called Communists.

immigration was expanded.....

That's what he got for trusting Democrats

Cold war is a great example of a big government expansion project by the MIC. It's a war where they must produce to win......

Several on here express beliefs that are the antithesis for Reagan's entire term but still love them some Ronnie R.

I'd say you pretty much covered his "more on that later" nonsense.

I'm thinking he won't be back in this thread... unless he's a masochist.

I like Dennis Quaid and can kinda / sorta see him pulling off some interpretation of Reagan, so I'm not too worried about him but I expected hollyweird to butcher it and so wasn't planning to watch it

...but I likely will with all the positive reviews it's getting

I love when people comes spout nonsense.

It’s not nonsense; it’s just that he is judging actions that happened 40 years ago by the perspective of today.

And he is right that Reagan took very anti-labor positions. That was across the board. It was his administration that pushed for offshoring, based on Milton Friedman’s exhortations. He fought militant unionism, too. But at that time, unions were out of control, and our economy was suffering stagflation that had to be beaten by growing out of it once the inflation was wrung out. The offshoring made our economy much more efficient and successful.
