Better

We didn't have the 24 hour propaganda machine trying to pump him up.

Those threads and gas lines. What else could you want?

I don't remember gas lines under Carter. Under Ford, the Oil Embargo of 1974 caused gas lines. You only buy so much (don't remember the number) and could only buy on alternate days depending on the last number on your tag (even or odd). That was a long time ago but that's the way I remember it.

It's not as bad yet, but that's coming and will likely be worse than what we saw under Carter and into Reagan's first year. Even during the worst of the Carter years we had enough domestic manufacturing and production going to keep shelves stocked. Within the next 6 months we're going to start seeing food shortages in stores due to the rapid increase in production costs and supply chain issues (the current baby food shortage is just the canary in the coal mine). We're also going to see Unemployment start moving upward either for May or June, that will likely continue until at least December.

It had eased a bit by 1981. Bought my first house when prime was 13.5% (first time home buyer could get bond money at 2% below prime) and went from a job the provided a car to one that didn't so I had to buy a new car at some ungodly rate. But, living through all of that, you couldn't say, "well, it's got to get better so let's wait". It just became a way of life and you did what you had to do. Don't remember what year under Reagan that it got to be better.

You may be right with all that was going on in the middle east. Just don't remember them.

Similar to the earlier 1973-4 oil crisis, the 1979 oil crisis was prompted by foreign affairs and actions, particularly the Iranian revolution. On January 16, 1979, the Shah of Iran fled the country and the Ayatollah Khomeini became the new leader of Iran. There was a serious drop in Iranian oil production in the wake of the revolution, and oil markets' reaction raised the price of crude oil drastically over the next 12 months, more than doubling the cost per per barrel. The sudden increase in price was connected with fuel shortages and long lines at gas stations similar to the 1973 oil crisis:

It had actually begun under Nixon, after the Yom Kippur War in the Middle East in fall 1973. Rising oil prices and the "energy crisis" continued under Ford after he took office in August 1974, but the rationing and the lines were early in the processs, during the Nixon administration.

I’d argue that the misery index was real under Carter- a combination of high inflation AND high unemployment. I don’t think our “ second event “ has yet occurred to go along with inflation. I think we are at the beginning of whatever this is. Another shoe will drop. Let’s ask this question again in 60-90 days.

At least Carter at the time he was President didn't forget everything, read off a teleprompter only, and didn't shite his pants multiple times a day like Scumbag Joe does.

Yeah Carter sucked but he blew Scumbag Joe out the water.

Are you asking your friends and relatives which gas station might be open at midnight to be happy to get a 10 gallon limit of gasoline?

Jimmy Carter is/was a patriot who loved America and her people. All of them. He was a weak leader who was in far over his head. He still tried his best to lead the entire nation.

Joe Biden hates America and what it stands for. He hates half of the population because they disagree with him. He is 100% about politics and could care less about this nation. He’s an evil son of a bitch.

Joe Biden is hands down the worst President in American history and it isn’t even close.

I couldn't come close to saying it any better.

The biggest difference is the message. Biden is blaming Covid, Russia, Corporate greed, etc.
Carter was Prez at a time when there was only left wing media and that media went to work selling 'This is the new normal.'

If Biden used that today he couldn't sell it without alternative media blowing it up.
