It is definitely my FIRST source.
Posters give you the headline for current events, and then you can jump to other multiple sources to get the details--often from a provided link.
Don't feel bad about it, and ignore the sheep.

Same here. This site is actually where I found out Osama bin Laden had been shot. And during elections or mass shootings etc., this site always seems to have someone who knows somebody or read something elsewhere before any "news" organization reports it.

I look at it as an aggregate. Getting info from all over the US. TD much better source of info than any MSM. It is also real time.

Reminded me of this ad.

Why? It's mine. Everyone rushes to publish every news and "News" article on the web here in 1 place. Plus, we get to argue over it. By the time I get home, I don't need to watch the nightly news.
Exactly. High traffic message boards function as news aggregators.
Probably good to add a few other sources like Reddit so you cover the spectrum - but message boards tell you which issues are most important.
I also follow Reason and EWTN because they're openly biased but their policy preferences are divided between D and R, so they aren't in the tank for either team. Whereas CNN is basically "Orange Man Bad" and they expect you to forget they advocated exactly the opposite position two days earlier.

Well, everything does get posted here

Same here. They think its just a bunch of message board rumor mills, not news linked to actual articles, sites, etc.
I find out on TD way before stuff hits main stream media.
And you don't get reactionary gifs on main stream.

Pretty much my MO too; the spirited and humorous competition from both sides to offer and refute the opposition's *news* offerings, pretty much assures not only the news, but points that both support or undermine said 'news'.
Some smart and patriotic people here. And the Mods run a tight but fair ship.

I have known people IRL who admitted to me that their only source is CBS evening news.

It's one of mine and I have told my wife and kids that I find out things on this site (PT and OT) well in advance of when the "regular" media start reporting on it.

TD is the fastest site for news from all over.
If I had to rely on the mainstream news channels and the Madison newspapers I would be just like most other sheep around town.
This site has been a godsend for a conservative perspective. Sometimes I agree and sometimes I don't. But without it or talk radio or Fox news.....there is no other place to have or see real open dialogue. Too politically correct everywhere.

Me too. And during a crisis you can find some expert that knows more than anyone on tv .
Posted on 11/9/18 at 12:20 pm to Federal Tiger
This is where I get most of my news. I can see the spin on any news from both sides, even if there are more posters on one side or another.

This is a very informative site.
Contrarily, go follow a group like Walton and Johnson's facebook page. I feel evil after reading some of the yahoo language on there. People are nuts, man.
And, yeah, there are nut jobs on here too, but at least we don't know who each other are (most of us).

It isn't that hard. Read a variety of sources...neutral, and both sides of the aisle for opinion stuff. Don't rely on a bunch of people you already agree with to curate your sources for you. It's just indulgent reinforcement of your own beliefs.

I've made a similar comment to folks IRL. This place really is a great aggregator of news and current events across a variety of subjects.

So you can only further snipe about "the board" but not answer my question?
Cool.
