quote:that is a ridiculously misleading statistic. It is completely skewed by early childhood deaths.
Life expectancy pre 1650 was 35-40, so it was not an insignificant amount of time.
If a person in that era survived childhood, they could expect to live well into their 60s.

Yeah. They’re almost white!
Hell, some considered them almost human. British scientists of the 18th century showed illustrations of the human face, the Irish face and the gorilla face. The conclusion was that Irish were halfway to modern human.

More white privilege.
Little white kids scooped up before little black kids.

So you're saying that a kid put into indentured servitude may spend most of their lives as a slave. Got it.
What's with your weird attitude to minimize any period of slavery?

Another genius conflating chattel slavery and indentures.
Yes, in your mind you’re the provocative genius…. So you’re implying that those Irish children signed a contract with the Kings in order to be shipped across the ocean to become workers?

Where are the reparations for my people?
Why did people hate your ancestors like that?

It seems some of my ancestors hated each other, so I guess I have to pay reparations to myself. Maybe I can make #SelfVictimization the new thing in the AWFL (Affluent White Female Liberals) crowd and get a GoFundMe out of it.

quote:No, I am affirmatively STATING (not "implying") that the Irish sent to the Americas by the English were not "slaves" by any recognized definition of that word and that you are being intentionally disingenuous in spreading the "Irish Slavery in America" myth. (I am not even getting into the nonsensical notion that the English were capturing thousands of Irish CHILDREN and shipping them to the Americas as forced labor).
So you’re implying that those Irish children signed a contract with the Kings in order to be shipped across the ocean to become workers?
So, you are disingenuous, or you are just woefully uninformed and fell prey to the Far Right nutcases ... who started that myth to minimize the evils of chattel slavery.
Whether "indentured," convicts (often for relatively-minor crimes) or some other form of "involuntary colonist" (often simply poverty), the Irish were FREE after expiration of the term of their service. Therein lies the key difference.
I say all of that as someone with substantial Irish ancestry ... and proud of it.
Lastly, I invite you to present anything RESEMBLING "proof" that 100 Irish children were shipped to the American colonies as slaves in 1619. It just DID NOT HAPPEN.
