I recently had to force an employee to take some time off. The depression in his face was showing badly and since we all are in communication daily by video conference, it was an easy condition to spot, as he basically said everything you said, except the chemo part.
These times can be trying. I'm doing things like working on home improvement projects, gardening, landscaping, working on my photography skills, creative cooking and volunteerism. I like watching Tucker, but lately, I can't, because constantly becoming incensed is tiring, frustrating and creates a huge cloud of negativity around me.
Think about ways you can interact with others, and if you don't have a hobby, start one.
I wish you much success with your chemo. Think positive thoughts and turn off the news.

Hang in there. Focus on you right now and surround yourself with positivity.
Find something to occupy your mind. It doesn't matter how ridiculous it is, just something to occupy your mind. I've spent hours reading about mythology and folklore from other cultures. Mostly useless knowledge but it's an escape.
I'll say a prayer for you.

Lots of inspirational messages here. Lots of good advice here as well.
As far as depression goes, as has been said, it's an illness like many others things. It's not your fault. Sometimes you need medication to adjust things and that's ok.
I'm not sure of the cancer and what that means. It depends on the cancer. And I don't know how tired you are. That is due to the chemo.
One of the toughest things to get yourself to do is also the best. Getting out for a walk in the morning before it gets too hot out is the best thing in the world for your mood. Endurance exercise is the morning does wonders for that.
So take the two who love you more than anything for a walk with you every morning and walk around the block an extra time in the morning if you can and then start extending it.
As far as the news here goes, I don't know what to tell you. Don't dwell on it. If you don't know that many people, you can connect with them online.
Reddit, though a liberal cesspool, doesn't have to be. Go to areas where little politics is discussed. Sports teams, strange hobbies, everything is there.
And if you pick a small enough subreddit, I'm going to assume you will start to recognize the people who post there and they will recognize you. You will become party of that group.
There are different boards on this site. The outdoor board has a lot of nice welcoming people on it. It's not too big and there's is good discussion there.
There is a lot of good and beauty in the world. Make it your mission to find it.

Sorry to hear you are goi6 through this brother. But please know you are not alone as you have seen from others on this board. I too suffer from depression as a result of my OCD which I have dealt with most of my life and has flared up the last few years.
I take a few supplements that help me such as host defense's lion's mane mushroom and their stress decompress. I also take L-Theanine daily as well as 5-HTP. But with that being said since you do take medication please get with your doctor before you take any of this.
Also someone else mentioned that you should eat lower carbs and get outside if possible to get some sunlight for your vitamin D production. I have added a link below to a video that talks about some causes of depression from doctor Berg his videos do help me.
And also a little bit controversial however you may want to look into psychedelic medical trials as a way to inform you of the development of the use of psychedelic medicine for those who suffer with mental disorders expresly depression. John Hopkins center is a big leader in this research. Take care my friend and I hope things get better for you and like others have said turn to God as he can help you carry this cross.

Anybody got any tips for dealing with depression?
What you can control (to a degree):
Sunshine (morning and evening)
Heavy weights: For weight lifting
Exercise (walk your dogs as your illness allows)
Meditation: especially on a rainy day
Proper diet: Get rid of processed food and sugar
Volunteer your time helping others...it provides purpose. Just make sure that whoever you are assisting with can show improvement. If not, their circumstances can depress you.
Remove “depressants” from your life if possible. If it is social media - then nix it. If it is the MSM- change the channel, if it is a “friend” that really isn’t...bye. Reflect on it, know what makes you happy and what makes you unhappy. Remove the shite that makes you unhappy if you can.
In short, control what you can control and manage the stuff that is out of your control as best as you can.
Good luck.

I would seriously avoid political boards. Left or right, too much negativity.

One of the best things anybody ever told me is that depression is a “lying bitch”. Very true. Depression tells you to see the world through a distorted lens. If you recognize that you are depressed, you can recognize the lies for what they truly are. That recognition itself is a path to a better place. The path can feel long, but just know that things do get better. You are on the right track.

I’m so sorry. I shut down my iPad for a week or so every once in a while too. It’s overload of bad news. Depression is debilitating,I know. I usually find a good novel to read for a while until my mind can take reading the news again. I love this site, but I’ve shut it down and then come back when I can handle the truth.
Take care and I will pray for you. I hope you have faith in God. If it doesn’t cure your depression in this world, it will most certainly protect you when your body dies. God bless you.

Any sites that you visit that aren't gonna make me mad or sad?
I'll say this: ain't no shame in going to talk with a doctor. If youve reached this point, the internet won't help.
Don't worry about what others will think, just focus on you, and do it. Life is short, there's no point wasting your time on the internet.

I agree with this statement. I too have "issues". The "Q" thread is about so much more than politics. The not too distant future looks bright. Little HOPE goes a long way.
Good luck brother.

JML I hear you. I almost pulled into the walk in clinic recently — was going to flat out admit to be depressed in seek of meds. Drove past it and just went home. I was so tempted.
