States we will be visiting next: Montana, Utah, and the Dakotas, Wyoming, Idaho.
We went to all of those states 3 years ago on a month-long vacation. MY GOD, they are beautiful!

Be sure to go to the Little Big Horn National Monument and the Crazy Horse Monument.

It’s situational at this point.

I certainly wouldn’t spend money in Hawaii between it being hard blue, expensive as hell, and shut down.

Washington state? Possibly but I would keep my head on a swivel in and around Seattle.

Cali? Possibly because I would have reasons to be there.

NY/NJ/CT? No fricking way.

I agree.

I suggest a road trip, stop for a night or more in multiple states so you won’t be spending all your money in one specific place. And hopefully by the end of the trip you’ll think how beautiful America is and feel some bonds for those who live in different places. I did this a few years ago and it had been a while since a road trip- no I don’t consider a trip to Branson as a cultural experience - and it was so so so much fun and it was relaxing and I saw some beautiful places and I truly enjoyed every encounter I had along the way. Sometimes it’s nice to focus on our similarities vs our differences and the road trip did me a heap of good in that regard.

Yep. I would hope that most of us can leave political discussions on the political discussion board. I've never talked American politics traveling in the US. Unless we have a permanent Covid crisis, I imagine politics will never be a part of a conversation with someone I barely know.

Hell, I rarely discuss politics with people I know well. I vote and accept there are things in life that are completely out of my control. We all have to adapt and do our best to live the best life we can. Society isn't obligated to conform to what we think it ought to be.

Well, if you were really committed, you would refuse to patronize companies headquartered in blue states. Otherwise you're just half-assing it.

You aren't visiting and enjoying incredible parts of the beautiful world God created because you only agree with 45% of the other humans who live there about political issues, instead of 55% in your home state?

Sounds like a great idea. Also, if your job requires you to travel, make sure to let them know which states you approve of visiting so they will know not to send you to states like California.

Yes.

But 2020 is so fricking weird that my family is entertaining the idea of moving back to south Louisiana.

Say what you want about that state, but it will costs us about $700,000 in additional taxes over our working careers to live in Illinois vs Louisiana. Louisiana has made incredibly stupid decisions, but Illinois is hell bent on taxing their citizens to death.

You people don’t get out much.

I am about as conservative as they get and I live in CT. There are some liberal loons for sure in the cities and Greenwich area. But there are plenty of conservatives and good people who live here as well. Same for Jersey. Outside of NYC, NY is plenty conservative. Even NYC has some good people. It’s not like they’re all evil ready to jump out at you.

This thread comes off as ignorant.

Possibly, just avoid blue parishes and counties.

Lots of red counties in blue states.

You won't go visit your daughter in her home because you don't agree with the states politics?

Family is more important to me than that.

Or just avoid crap holes in general.

Even though Ct is blue and LA is red, I would much rather live in my city than somewhere like Rayne or Maurepas.

Also, most people aren't really that political even if they vote a certain way, and most of the ones who are aren't going to be in your face about it. People let the vocal minority characterize an entire state.
