Sorry about your sister-in-law, Moderate charlie. I meant personally unaffected by the restrictions, not by COVID itself.

But you answered the important question: restricting which firearms people can buy counts as restricting freedom. Agreed.

Illinois passed a law under Democratic Governor Pritzker banning purchases of certain firearms, including covered AR-15s. Illinois State Police spells it out on its own website. Does that meet the standard you just agreed to?

And calling church restrictions “precautionary measures” explains why you support them. It doesn’t mean they weren’t restrictions.

So is your argument that Democrats don’t restrict freedoms, or that you consider certain restrictions justified? Because the second is a position you can defend. Your relatives still being able to squirrel hunt doesn’t establish the first.

You're factually incorrect. What do you think "real flag" laws do? You've heard of them, right? You should change your handle from Kiwihead to Brainlesshead.

If they could get their way the 1st and 2nd Amendments would be gone yesterday. And it would be nice to be free from being overrun by illegal immigrants from around the world but again if they could get get their way that would be gone to. It already is to some point thanks to them.

The freedom to not have our 401k's seized would be in peril, they have floated that idea before.

The freedom to not be taxed on gains that have not been realized could be gone if they had their way also.

Just a few off the top of my head, I have little doubt there's more

i don't support limited gun purchases. i'm a cajun who hunts. i don't personally have an AR-15 but, it doesn't bother me if you do. i just haven't been threatened or visited by law enforcement yet to come and take my guns.

Dude, taking a trip to another country for a few weeks =/= living in one and experiencing the bloated governmental bureaucracy other nations have and the loss of things we here take for granted. People in several nations, that are admired by our very own Democratic party, go to jail every day for internet posts.

yes. it definitely would be a restriction. hell.......making people wear seatbelts and helmets for bikes are a simple lost freedom.

I believe the distinction is that no where in our founding documents are seatbelt and bike helmet use listed as absolute rights.

Things like guns and religion are. Whether you want to admit it or not, democrats have pushed to limit those rights. It is absolutely a case of slippery slope to things that are specifically listed as God given rights

Then are we agreed that Illinois is a specific example of Democrats restricting a freedom you believe people should have?

Nobody needs to confiscate your existing guns for a restriction on buying another one to count. That’s the distinction I’m making.

Ok I’ll play:

Some will lose our first amendment rights as “hate speech” seeps into the courts and laws. Say the wrong thing, post the wrong thing, jail or fines are in your future.

All will lose 2nd amendment rights as the left will pack the courts and make the 2nd amendment a nostalgic reminder of the past.

Voting will be opened to illegals swamping citizens voting and making elections meaningless.

I’d post more examples but instead I’ll refer you to what dems have been saying for years.

I don’t believe you will get an honest answer. Once specific example are pointed out, these threads quickly turn into deflection and name calling so they can be derailed without admitting error.

Low-hanging fruit: open borders = direct attack on western values including liberty.

Yes, but smoking is regulated on the state level.

The democrat platform is against Christian values and doctrine. There is, as a point of fact, no way to be an actual Bible believing Christian, and support the democrat party

Meanwhile Trump has cut food stamp funding (feed the poor and sick), dehumanizes groups like immigrants (love thy neighbor), is an adulterer, has refused to prosecute child rapists, oh and on multiple occasions has either mocked or depicted himself as Christ. Don’t seriously sit here and try to make Republicans the party of Christian values.

Sure, Moderate charlie. An outright ban on adults choosing to smoke would restrict their freedom. Are you talking about that, or restrictions on smoking around other people? Which specific policy?

I can apply the same standard regardless of which party passes it. I never claimed Republicans were incapable of restricting freedoms.

You asked for a specific Democratic example. I gave you one, and you agreed. We can discuss smoking too, but changing the example doesn’t erase the answer.

i'm certainly a fan of protecting the border. however, do you think that these people are trying to come here to take over the country like we did to the native americans or do you think that it's mostly to leave their poverty restricted homeland?
