My thought process last year. And my birthday present to myself. Have since picked up an AR pistol as well. Great investment.

ar-15 for home defense?

The AR15 is a superior home defense weapon compared to a shotgun. A shotgun is still good, but an AR15 is better on numerous fronts and I'll list them if you'll actually listen.

How about you start with that 9mm before you go get something you have no idea how to operate.

It's no more difficult to "operate" than a 9mm

Exactly. It's a semi automatic rifle that looks scary to some people. That nut could have done the same thing with 2 glock pistols. We didn't have a high capacity magazine ban under Obama with a super majority. It's very unlikely to happen under Trump.

Ironic you're calling people dumb then claiming a shotgun will fill an entire hallway. Buckshot spreads out about 1" per yard. You still have to aim with a shotgun.

AR15s are excellent choices for home defense, although I would recommend a suppressor because firing a long gun indoors will be quite loud.

Yeah, it's not like you have to get 5.56 certified to pop a mag in and start shooting.

What? I think he is referring to a basic home invasion. Not a military coup of your home.

I'm talking about someone breaking into your house and coming at you down a hallway. Probably a very likely scenario in a home invasion. I'll take the shotgun, or my .45 over an ar-15 everyday.

clearly some of you have never had to operate an ar-15/m-16/m-4 in close quarters but keep making jokes.

Meth head across the street was dealing meth for gay sex. We finally got him busted. One morning before the bust, one of his boyfriends wrecked his car backing out of his drive. As he approached my front door, I pumped a shell in my Browning BPS shotgun. He tripped over himself getting out of there. Nothing like the sound of a pump shotgun action to run off a bad guy.
The AR is for the Russian invasion. The shotgun is for the thugs.

Which end does the bullet come out of? Oh you know that? Congratulations, you now qualify to operate an AR.

Oh goodness, the old "criminals will run at the mere sound of a shotgun racking"

Do you really think if you were holding an AR15 and pulled the charging handle, the same thing wouldn't have happened?

Look... the AR gives you far more rounds (useful for multiple intruders), faster follow up shots, faster reloads, less chance of over penetration compared to buckshot (not to mention slugs!), option of suppressor, and easier for smaller people to use (your wife for instance)

Shotguns are great weapons, and if that's all you have, great for home defense. But an AR15 is better.

so a longer, heavier, 12 gauge with more recoil is better in close quarters?
