First of all, covid isn't gone yet.
Second, masks are commonplace in a lot of cultures, particularly during flu season. While not required to wear in those places outside of a global pandemic, it's not weird to see people wear one and it absolutely reduces the spread of the seasonal viruses.

Part two, how much does it reduce the spread of Covid? If you said, “There is no statistically significant difference between infection rates in the masked and the unmasked,” you would be correct.

So sadly true. There are a few isles of sanity. I have a handful of restaurants and stores that are my main stomping grounds now. No masks required. One restaurant where all the waitstaff has them on their chins 100%. And my workplace never had, nor required them. Even my doctor's office is mask optional, which gave me a lot more respect for my doctor!

how did you end up this mentally weak and selfish, and how are you not embarrassed by it?
no one wants to wear a fricking mask, no one likes it, but we like having a virus thats killed 400,000 Americans even less. If theres even a chance me wearing a 2 ounce mask might slow this down and help the people around me, Im wearing one.
stop being such pussies and come to terms with the fact that we happen to live during a time when theres a horrific virus. Its bad luck, so be it, youre whiny bullshite is only dragging this out longer. other countries with actual resolve and self discipline are getting back to normal life, and we could too if youd just man up and handle your shite.

It makes sense. If we have to wear masks forever then eventually evolution will kick in and human babies will be born with mask-like skin over their faces.
