Her and her husband came to US about 20 years ago for a better life, she still practices her faith, but loves this country and is a conservative. Her and her husband did it the right way and are now US citizens.

Today we were talking and she asked me why all of this is happening? Doesn't the American people know what can happen when the government has so much power? Why are they all turning over all their freedoms?

We talked for a while and I thought, she is the type person that the Republicans need to put forward, these people that escaped these countries, found freedom here, and now to see it slipping away.

She is fearful of what might happen to us, because she has lived it.

There's a reason Trump had so much Cuban support in Florida.

My Russian future in laws think America has gone fricking crazy, is morally broken, and headed for destruction.

It’s harder and harder to tell them not to worry.

It has nothing to do with religion but with the oppressive government they came from.

I have had similar conversations with Cubans, Chinese, Vietnamese, Polish, and Russian immigrants. Ii is always the same story and questions go like this:

Why are you allowing this?

We came here to escape communism and now it is happening again.

You need to fight back!

Followed by a terrible account of how they or family member was imprisoned. Or even worse, outright killed.

They also emphasize that there is no where else on earth to escape to. If America falls to communism then the left has achieved ultimate victory.

I've never understood why the republican party doesnt exclusively use Eastern European immigrants and South American/Cuban immigrants to help educate the population about the evils of socialism and communism.

The left is excellent at making emotional arguments that tie policy to an individual. The republicans think that a pie chart and an argument about marginal tax rates will move the needle, and its just not true. We need to elevate these people to the lead in the conversations because they can speak from real experience and bring an emotional aspect to the debate against Socialism.

Point her to Latin America. Anyone wanting to know where we are going, and how we got there, point them to study south of the border. Not just VE, but good recent example. But way back to Cuba, and other central american countries. Guetalmala, etc.

Muslim or Islamic is commonly referred to as a Islamic community. Sorry that you are not aware of how these people speak about themselves.

Many who have fled their home countries under desperate situations often refer to themselves as Muslim or Islamic as to further the distance between them from the country they left.

Maybe spend some time with Muslims and you would know that!
