The top states that spend the most per capita on welfare.
1.New York
2.Alaska
3.Mass
4.Vermont
5.Minnesota
6.New Mexico
7.Deleware
8.Maine
9.Oregon
10.Kentucky
#1, #3, #4, #8 are all New England States. You could make the case for Deleware being the Southern most NE State but we can leave that one off. Kentucky comes in at #10 and is really not Deep South.
Per capita, 4 NE States are in the top 10 of welfare handouts.
Yes, I have been to several NE States and I met more white people there on the Government gravy train than I have ever encountered in the South. I spent a lot of time in Buffalo in particular and could not believe how many people had subsidized housing, utilities, etc.. And many of them would complain that New York State Government was the devil because of high taxes that was causing businesses to leave the State. It was surreal listening to people who were the root cause of the high tax burden not be able to comprehend the cause/effect relationship.
