IMHO, Hillary will give the Democrats an ultimatum IF it looks like the Dem candidate will beat Trump because of this unprecedented soft coup against Trump. Hillary will tell the Dems that she will "blow the roof" off of this entire soft coup against Trump by revealing that it was HER outfit/campaign ALL ALONG that launched the opposition research Steele dossier that lead to the Special Counsel. AND she will reveal to the public that the Democrats knew all along that it was fake news created by Hillary's oppo research.
If Hillary is "done" then she will make sure that she doesn't become "done" all alone.
What choice will the Dems have after that?

No way in hell. Biden already resented having to sit out 2016 in deference to her. They occupy the same "lane" and he is already boxing her out with his tour and his language. He will not let her run and will get Obama to intervene on his behalf if needed (even though Obama privately prefers Harris to ultimately win the nomination, he'd help Joe out in a Joe v's Hillary situation).

One way or another, Hillary will run again, in 2020.
Entire msm complex(except some of fox news).. will hop back on her bandwagon.

Do you assume that Hillary will go away quietly?

She may not go "quietly" but Biden will have Obama and the MSM behind him and Hillary will be shouted down strongly if she tries to enter the race.
Guarantee you she will not run.
Biden WANTED to run in 2016 and he wasn't allowed to. The consensus among Dems is that this costs them the Presidency and that Hillary sucks as a candidate. They will side with Biden this time. Hillary has had two chances and has failed miserably both times. She's done.

Biden is going to get smashed by Harris or the Bernie type. Dems aren't going to vote for an older, more conservative white guy over a liberal minority

Anyway they run her again?
She'll enter the primaries. I doubt she'll win it though (unless the DNC rigs the election again).
Plenty of democrats don't seem to like her either. Not that it is because of some superior moral compass - they just don't seem to like her in general.
I think Bernie wins (assuming he's still alive). If Trump runs again in 2020, the debates between the two would be amusing if nothing else.

I agree, but he will get the backing to occupy the "establishment" lane.
Harris is in the "Obama 2008 lane" - completely different.
Establishment Dem lane - Biden / Maryland Governor
Obama 2008 lane - Harris or Perez
Bernie lane - Bernie or Perez or some other kook
Mogul lane - Cuban, Bloomberg, or Iger

Reminds me of the line from the Usual Suspects, "the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."
I think your instincts are right, the Clinton machine isn't dead and until I see her in an orange jumpsuit she is a threat, would be a fool to think otherwise.

I think there's a chance the establishment panics and elevates a shitty minority candidate above Biden

She is up to one of the following
1) position for another run
2) position for veep pick
3) position for AG job

She has dusted off the pantsuits for sure.

I completely agree with you that Harris is a way more likely nominee than Biden FWIW.
She can try to straddle the line between Bernie "true progressive" wing and Obama's 2012 "neoliberal / corporate America" lane.
I think the Obamas are already behind her TBH although Barack will have to appear neutral between her and Biden until one emerges.

True, they've moved so far left and 100% identity politics that there is no way Biden gets a sniff at it.
It would not surprise me if Booker chopped off his dick and grew tits to get the nomination.

Sadly, I think they’re too afraid of her to just tell her to go away.
