you are trying too hard here. The average millionaire off the street has investments in literally thousands of companies both directly and indirectly. The average Joe Blow mutual fund holder has stake in hundreds.

If your standard is that no politician or his family can ever have investments that might tangentially touch a sector that may receive public grants, contracts, loans, or otherwise participate in the political process, than what you are saying is that no politician or his/her family can ever participate in the market at any level. That's legitimately retarded and even ABCNews knows this, which is why the article has been retracted. There is a clear distinction from insider trading and investing.

There isnt a politician alive anywhere that doesn't have a stock or fund with direct or indirect ties to some grant, loan, or contract from government. Its impossible. And you can thank the left for this for leveraging our tax dollars to try and control everything.
