One of the many things that has been lost in this current conversation about the border are the every day heroes that put their own lives on the line to save those in need. One such story happened recently. There was a human trafficker smuggling dozens of people across the Rio grande when a six-month-old baby was tossed into the water. Without hesitation one such hero, a Texas DPS Special Operations officer working with US Border Patrol, dove into the Rio Grande to rescue the infant. He did this at the risk of his own life, weighted down by the body armor he has to wear fighting organized criminal elements and cartels. I can tell you from first-hand experience that the situation at the border is dire. It is worse than you read on the “news”. All personnel working on the border are understaffed, underfunded, and universally portrayed in a bad light. They are selfless public servants. Stop being manipulated and come see it for yourself.
