I'm a dive master (soon to be instructor) with a PhD in chemical engineering. Being a professor is nice and all, but academia... So I've been kicking around the idea of joining the navy or space force as an officer for a few months now, so sure I'd sign up.

Doesn't there need to be a war before people can actually serve in one? Even your title says potential conflict. We are not at war with Iran currently and I'm kind of doubting we will be, there is a difference between surgical strikes and full blown war.
