Life saving medicines like ivermectin?

Yeah that’s what I thought.

I dont shop at Costco but companies throwing an organic sticker on their product never meant that much to begin with.

My father in law has a bunch of cows and gives me free steaks and ground beef for my wife’s dowry. Thankfully I don’t have to worry about this

Go to a rancher. Talk to him. Buy a steer. Have it butchered.
You're gonna have to drive out in the country to do this.

I really think the war on GMO crops and vaccinated/implanted livestock is blown way out of proportion.

They don’t understand that there is no such thing as a non GMO crop.

I don’t remember anyone having deep freezers years ago

Born in 1965. We raised a beef every year and carried it to the local meat processor. Still have my parents deep freeze they used in my garage, it was likely made in the 60's. Rusty, but still works. Everyone we knew raised their own meat. Cows, hogs and chickens. But then, we lived in the country.

Feed is $12 for a 50 pound bag at my local co-op. Currently a 400 pound calf sells for 2.20 -3 a lb in my area. So that's another $900 -1200. If you feed a calf for 4 months, you'll likely feed close to 80+ bags or $1000. Plus hay and your time. Processing locally is 75 cents a pound hanging weight. Hanging weight is about about 60% of on the hoof weight. Then the meat is about 60% of hanging weight. So a 1000 lb calf will be around 600 hanging and you'll get 360 to 400 lbs of meat (depending on the cut choices).

$1000 for calf
$1000 for feed/water to top out
$400 to process
$2400 total + the pay for the farmers time.

Not as old man here, I don’t remember anyone having deep freezers years ago. They weren’t as popular as they are now, for sure. Let’s not act like storing a half or even quarter of a cow is reasonable for most people. Deep freezers aren’t expensive but many people don’t have space for one.

It’s the opposite. Less people have them now. I was born in 73 & everyone in my family had a deep freezer in the utility room since my earliest childhood memories.

I do. I think their steaks are consistently a very good quality and rarely can I find a better price on brisket anywhere else. I don't know if all of the beef is labeled as "organic" or not.

If you ever buy a beef from a local farmer, you'll love it. The taste is so much better. Chicken is the same way. Support your local farmers.

Feed, fuel, repairs, supplies. Everything is more expensive. Should I take the hit or adjust my prices accordingly?

I think this is a bit overblown, most producers use vaccines and in certain situations call for them. There are lead times cattle must hit for the vaccine to clear their system before they hit the slaughter line anyway.

This goes without diving into how certain medicines can destroy dung beetle populations. There are cattle management methods to reduce and even eliminate ivermectin use that will bring back dung beetles. Dung beetles play an important role in soil health and organic matter building.

I buy local raised animals from a local livestock auction barn that does their own processing. I also eat organic venison, wild hogs, rabbit, and chicken.

If you don't like how the meat at the stores are handled then move outside of the subdivisions, get 5-10 acres, raise chickens and rabbits, go hunting.

We switched over to a local meat market that is now setting up shop to do bulk orders. Larger up front cost but better per LB and already packaged by meat type.

So you think local farmers aren't vaccinating their herd?

My aunt's father in law is a beef farmer, and he uses none of this stuff. When I was younger he would warn me of all the hormones dairy and beef farmers used and how bad it is; he said a lot of what RFK is saying now (girls hitting puberty much younger than in times past for instance).

So no, not all are doing this, but yes many are. If you ask they will tell you though. I think legally they have to.
