The guitar alone is enough to send him to a gulag.

I saw DAC perform in a Merle Haggard concert bout a couple years ago maybe. Haggard had singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver performing with him. I recall Billy Joe was coming off a terrible period in his life, including recovery from heart surgery. At one point Billy Joe was struggling to perform and lost tempo on a song. Sensing his fellow performer was in trouble Coe stepped in to help Billy Joe get through the song.
Say what you want about DAC, but that incident showed me he had class.
Having said that......Coe's recording of "The Ride" is classic. Geez the b/s that passes for country music today...........

He doesn’t give a shite, so there is nothing they can do to him. If you don’t care, the evil commie bastards can’t touch you.
I not sure about that, his record label could be pressured into dropping him and itunes could remove him from their platform.
He may not care, but he can be canceled.

Coe is widely respected to be the only mother fricker to make Linda Lovelace gag

They only try to cancel the cancellable. Pretty sure David Allan Coe gives zero fricks.

Coe can barely walk on stage and has to sit through the whole show these days. He’s not a prime target.
he is 81 years old!!!!!!

Have seen him two different times in two different casinos playing slots. Once in Shreveport. Once in Tunica.
I think he picked up his current wife at a casino in Biloxi. She was a waitress serving him coffee at the slots and just left town with him.
Now she plays aggravating tambourine in the middle of the stage and he sits off to the side like she's the f'ing main attraction.

How's about posthumous cancellation of Johnny Rebel? He made DAC look like a progressive
I ordered that CD when I was in college in the early 90's. Went home one weekend to Shreveport and my dad saw it. To my surprise he started singing one of the songs on it. He said they were listening to the same thing in the 60's.

Well..... just noticed tonight that his 17 Greatest Hits album has disappeared from Amazon Prime, along with the epic version of those songs. Been listening to this album for a long time on Prime, now gone. Only other, less desirable versions of these songs can be found. Lame! WTF

I saw DAC in 1980 in Houston he was probably in his prime then. His guitarist was a young Warren Hayes who later gained fame and fortune with the Allman Brothers.

I remember when this was mainstream. How far we have fallen.
I love me some DAC, but it’s revisionist history to call most of his stuff (and especially that song) mainstream country. That album dropped in 1977 and even other country artists at the time were calling him a racist and his stuff was not nearly as widely disseminated on the radio after that.
