Because some socially conservative southerners, especially in Louisiana, still like them some soft socialism and don't care what comes with it.

Many of them either don't care, aren't smart to realize, or personally benefit from the situation. All you have to do is talk to people in Tangipahoa parish that have some sort of connection to even the parish government. Sure, many voted for Trump but love them some JBE. They don't mind the taxpayer funded programs that will bankrupt the state because, hey, they still have a pension. They also think he's "our guy" and some think if they kiss enough arse they can say they're a "friend of the governor".

It's sad, many of them have no shame blatantly showing what shills they are.

For some ignorant reason, Louisiana still has a group of white voters all over the state who consider themselves somewhat churchgoing & conservative but are of the old Blue Dog Democrat style of EWE/John Breaux/J. Bennett Johnson. They still actually consider EWE great & worship him. These are the people who helped put John Bel Edwards in office. It is mindboggling & part of why Louisiana is in the shambles that it is.

There are a lot old white people in this state that are culturally conservative and they hate the national democrat party as it is now but they’re tired of voting republican and so desperately want the Dixiecrats to return and take their party back, so until that happens, they vote republican.

When someone like JBE comes along, they jump at him and will defend him no matter what, even if they have to do it subtly like saying “I don’t like JBE BUT....” and they list window dressing like pro life, guns and so on, things that have nothing to do with the economy and fiscal policy in Louisiana in which JBE is very much a tax and spend liberal.

JBE is the Dixiecrats last hurrah.

This has been hilarious in my neck of the woods. Tangipahoa's Anchorman, Kenny Benitez is one of those folks. He's a fourth rate hack wannabe newsman on a cable access channel that makes Jim Acosta look like Edward R. Murrow.

He's gone after a friend from high school when she dared challenge JBE. It's been fun watching the idiot beclown himself. I guess he still thinks he may get a job in the Governor's communications office.
