quote:Totally agree with this assessment.
I believe that most people become addicted because they are having problems in life and need an escape or acceptance from someone who is in that life. Whether it be loneliness, pain, abuse, or any other reason, they are looking for an escape.
Most people who are happy with their lives don’t get blitzed every night.

Where to start...
Maybe reading my entire post instead of the title? It really was just a question about the negative affects of alcohol; I'm thoroughly familiar with the positive ones.
I had 30 years in the military, most of them as an 11b. I'll let you figure out if that makes me naive or lacking in challenges, but I don't think those are the only two options. It really was an honest question.

i'm an alcoholic, have been as long as i can remember. have had it at bay off and on for decades but it's always there. i can crush a 5th of bourbon a day no problem but that's been a few years now
it's impossible to describe if you don't know. same as gambling i guess - i never do but some folks can't quit. not sure i can either. it's tough

It’s an abrasive question, and worded poorly. Meaning your presentation sucked but the question is fine

Hangovers are 75% dehydration, 25% acetaldehyde. If you aggressively hydrate and don’t go CRAZY hangovers are mild at most.
I only drink heavily 5-10 times a year, but I usually wake up with a minor headache around 6-7, take a piss then go back to sleep for an hour and then I feel fine the rest of the day. It wouldn’t be difficult for me at all to drink every day if I had a mind to do so.
That being said, benzos are the thing that I could most easily get addicted to. No hangover and ALL your worries/concerns go away. The only downside is you can only stay awake so long after the high hits.

a comment way to get addicted is to build it into your social schedule.
couple drinks each day after work
starting the weekend with purchase of a large bottle

Everyone has habits, some are worse than others and yes can easily become addictive.
The best way I’ve found to avoid drugs and alcohol, which I think everyone can agree can become very destructive, to them and everything they touch. I just didn’t start using them.
Yes there was peer pressure when I was young, so it isn’t easy but eventually they figured out I wasn’t kidding and because the guy to bring along when everyone wanted to get home safe.
Now if you asked me to give up golf, no way

It’s similar to how you got addicted to cock.

Many people who become alcoholics had alcoholic parents. There is a genetic predisposition.

i'm an alcoholic,
First, congrats. Nicotine may not be as destructive as booze but it was pretty hard to kick.
When you were drinking did you feel physically bad the next day or was there no physical deterrent? I get that there are plenty of other deterrents, but if you drink that much do you just adapt?

If a fifth is 25 ounces, I hope there are 5 or 6 of you drinking it.
Surprisingly there are usually two to three of us. We usually have a quarter of the bottle left for the next day. I said we get hammered. I have to make sure I don't walk/fall off the dock into the lake. So far, so good. This is a twice a year thing. Nothing in-between.

I did it, but I had to pull myself from social functions until it the itch was gone. It can take a few years. Now I just drink on thanksgiving and Xmas. I honestly don’t even like it much anymore. I was on and off for years depending on whether I was going to the gym or not

I never saw a response regarding your service in the other thread about Marcinko. Not proper service I’m assuming, especially after adding this question?

For me it didn’t happen any day that I can remember; but looking back it seems like I always was. Started in my teens. Like many of you am from south La and it was natural to do.
That’s all I got. God bless you all.

Yea, you have to drink almost nonstop to have that reaction, outside of sleep. If not, you would have been throwing up every day after you got up. You had to of re-up’ed before noon

My father was a pow ,100 % disabled , combat wounded and used it as self medication. I wish there would have been medical marijuana ( not my thing at all) more available when he was alive.
