Scores were released yesterday. Bossier (heavily GOP) got 'A'. Caddo (heavily Dem) stayed at 'C' with half their schools at D,F.

Next year's grades will not be curved which means scores will go down.

Yet when comparing the 2, Caddo had all the top scoring schools

Bossier doesn't use Magnets. Caddo Magnet HS, Middle Magnet and South Highlands are for high IQ kids. That's where my grandchildren go.
I went to 'grandparents day' last month. The homeroom teacher said "Mr.Zach, your grand daughter is extremely bright."
Me: "Madam, IQ is genetic."

Two efforts to soften the impact of the new rules failed on identical 4-7 votes, with all three of Gov. John Bel Edwards' appointees siding with the push for a milder approach.

Right.

Like I said, all the top schools in the area are in Caddo.

Maybe Bossier can catch us one day.

No, you still don't understand. All of the high IQ students in Caddo are concentrated in 3 schools. Bossier spreads them out by neighborhood. The proper measure is ALL of Caddo vs. ALL of Bossier and it's not close. Bossier is vastly superior.

Oh, I understand completely. Where do you think all the middle to upper middle class kids in Caddo go to school?

For average kids.

Wow, that brings back memories. Chief was great. He bought a cheap car his freshman year and had the dealer take the back seat out and extend the driver's seat track back so he could fit in it.

And, yes, he attended every class every day and he graduated on time in 4 years. But he did have some 'help'. Oh, the stories I could tell.

True story about Caddo. BTW high school, 9th grade English exam question (not created by the teacher but by the Parish):

The student sees a drawing of a car without any wheels.
The teacher is instructed to verbally say the following: 'What is the car missing?"

The student then has 3 options printed in large type under the picture:

a. WHEELS

b. CAT

c. TREE

I saw the exam myself. The teacher said theat 3/4 of the students failed. This is not special ed. This is regular Eng. I.

Tangipahoa parish schools have been average to failing since 2009. Even with the new magnet standards, our schools have been dismal. We’re now voting for teacher raises. Frick that. Show you can teach and get the graduation rate past 70% and test scores above average. Then, and only then, will I vote “yes” for you to get a raise. Only a teacher would complain about not getting paid enough, but, get every holiday and 3 months off.

Is that the right comparison? It depends on the question.

Which district, overall, has the best performance? Then yes district average is probably better.

But a family doesn't send their kids to a district. They send them to a school. So if the questions is "which school district do I want to live in to maximize my kids chance of future success?" If you have average kids, then Bossier is probably better for you. If you have smart kids then Caddo is the better choice.

It's the same issue with Livingston/Ascension and East Baton Rouge. They have overall better test results (because they have overall better students from middle class backgrounds). But EBR has elite schools with elite students (thinking Baton Rouge High).
