I'll admit I'm no virologist, but how can we mass produce a flu vaccine EVERY year within weeks of flu season yet experts are predicting we won't have a Coronavirus vaccine until possibly 2022?

Flu vaccines have existed for years.

COVID-19 has existed since roughly December.

This is a new virus so scientist have to start from scratch on creating a vaccine

Each year is different.

Would a half assed solution like the yearly shot in the dark flu vaccine be enough for the fearmongers?

And?

The flu is different every single year. That's why you get a new vaccine EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

What?

So we get DIFFERENT flu vaccines every year, but you think they're all the same?

And I'm the idiot?

They plan out and forecast what strains that particular year will hit then start making the vaccine several months in advance of flu-shot season...

they're having to start from scratch with this Covid vaccine

No use in explaining this to you. You’re a simple minded buffoon. To anyone with a three digit IQ they understand immediately.

"flu" strains are all in the same family. We have all those strains already mapped out. The vaccines are basically just templates at this point. We're really just talking about proteins here.

I’m going to put this into war terms so your feeble mind can understand this. Let’s say each year our towns have to prepare for a Mongolian invasion. For the most part we get their differing strategy correct even if a few people die.

This is as if aliens from War of the Worlds landed and you use the same strategy against them as you would against the Mongolians you are familiar with and you can prepare for. You are a fricking idiot.

We did such an amazing job two years ago.

Did we shut the country down then?

1. The flu vaccine for next flu season is likely formulated by now. If not it will be soon.

2. Although each year’s vaccine is different, it is mostly different combinations of known strains so the work is trying to figure out which strains are likely to dominate the following year.

3. This is totally different. This isn’t a flu. It’s a Coronavirus. We do t have vaccines for those yet.

This virus is a different type of SARS. I don’t think they ever developed a vaccine, and they’ve had 15 years. If they did you’d think that might be helpful to build on.
