So they’ll give up their ability to choose their power providers? How much more will that cost citizens in comparison to the “safety” that will be provided from once in a generation storms?

ETA: not sure how it all works so correct me if I’m wrong.

I hope Houston doesn't stay part of Texas after Texit. We can definitely carve them out. The lack of shipping will hurt, but I am really starting to hate that blue city. Of course, that is Houston proper not Tex city, LaPorte, etc.

CenterPoint's corporate office is in Houston. They provide both NG (primarily, I think) but I learned week that are also an energy distributor. Our provider here is CenterPoint. Now how do you unravel that if you move Houston off of ERCOT and move to the eastern grid?

I think a property/land swap with folks in the blue parts of the country that want out would be a great solution.

People could move freely between the RoT and the rest of the US for a few years. After that, a very strict immigration plan sets in.

There is no texit without Houston.

There’s no texit anyways but there certainly is not texit without Houston.

There are 21 Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Houston.

If you take out Houston then you eliminate a massive amount of the Texas economy and make the state non sustainable

Correct.

Double correct. Not even worth discussing Texit if Houston is out.

This is the second once in a generation winter storm Texas has had in the last 12 years where thousands were without power.

Nah, we'll keep Houston. Plenty of more liberal areas the dissatisfied people can go if they want communism.

There were cities in Louisiana facing the same issues that Texas was. IE shreveport without power/water for significant time forcing emergency facilities/hospitals to have significant issues. You just didn’t hear about them on cnn because the entire state of Louisiana has 2 million less people than the city of Houston and Texas typically carries the banner for republicans like California does for democrats.

I am not saying this in a Texas pumper way in fact I am looking to get back to Louisiana.

Fair point, I am talking about the dumbasses that seem to pervade certain parts of Houston. Of those 21, how many are outside of Houston proper. I imagine most are still HQd downtown, but it would be interesting to see.

I know I don't...I picked this up from the end of the article....

quote:

For some perspective, Houston’s neighboring Liberty County is currently one of several in East Texas that are in the service area of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), Garcia’s office notes.

MISO is listed as an independent and regional transmission organization. In regards to jurisdiction, its regulation and oversight falls under the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and is in the Eastern Interconnect grid.

So if a county just East of Houston can be on the Eastern grid then I don't see how Harris Co will have a hard time doing it themselves especially if there is traction on this in the community. I also don't know how the pricing works out in the Summer but I know I easily pay 3 times more in teh summer months than I do in winter in LA...and that has just always made sense to me.

None of them. If you bump it up to metro area I believe you get to 24.

The last one was nothing like this one. There was like maybe 1” and it melted the next day.
