He’s not up for reelection in 2018, but here’s why Marco Rubio is campaigning hard

North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows, chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and an ally of Bannon’s, praised Rubio’s work on Capitol Hill one year into his second term.

“He gets no criticisms from me,” Meadows said. “Actually, we’re working very closely on the child tax credit that he’s working with Ivanka [Trump]. I think he’s doing a great job on that. I think he has an idea that it needs to be higher than what it is.”

quote:

“He’s an in-demand surrogate. He’s a compelling surrogate for young people and conservatives of all stripes,” said Jordan Russell.

“Marco Rubio is the conduit we have to get to President Trump,” said Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a moderate Miami Republican and Trump opponent who was once Rubio’s boss when he worked as an intern in her office. “He’s got the president’s ear on Cuba and Venezuela, two issues which I’m passionate about. He’s been wonderful about Puerto Rican aid.”

quote:

“I’ll be glad to write in Marco Rubio’s name this time,” Ros-Lehtinen said.

And even among conservative Republicans, Rubio remains an important part of the party.

“I think he’s a leader,” Meadows said. “To suggest otherwise would be to ignore the obvious.”

For some time it’s been known Marco Rubio is the main conservative power broker in the Senate. When you have the chairman of the freedom caucus stating he has ZERO criticisms of Marco you know he is a deep rooted truly conservative candidate. Marco is the future of the Republican party once Trump removes the GOPe from existence. I have a long memory and remember clearly who supported us from the beginning.

I voted for Rubio in the Texas primary. He was the only candidate I could stomach between Cruz, Trump, and Rubio. I preferred Rand, but he had dropped out at the time.

The House bill leaves the old capital gains brackets in place. For example, the 0% capital gains tax still applies to income levels up to $77,200 for married couples even though the 12% bracket applies up to $90,000. Marco would like to see the income levels that receive 0% long term capital gains increased significantly.

What is this for single people? I sold some long term investments in college and had to pay 15% capital gains when my income was under $10,000.

Software upgrade seems to be an improvement over previous generations. Thanks for the feedback on his software performance.

Where is it in the Senate bill? What is he going to do about it? If he is such a leader, he should be able to hold sway with his Senate colleagues to include it in the Senate bill

You need to re-check that. It’s seems as if you were taxed as ordinary income for a short term capital gain. If you made <$37,950 and it truly was a qualified long term capital gain you should pay 0%.

Trust me he is fighting for it. However much, much more important to working Americans is the child tax credit increase and being redeemable against the payroll tax. This is his focus.

My financial advisor told me after 3 years, the investment was considered long term and regardless of my income I had to pay a flat 15% tax. He also told me the only thing you can write off against capital gains are capital losses.

You need a new advisor if in fact you made less than $37,950 and it was in fact a true long term capital gain. What credentials does your “advisor” have? Go to FINRA, the SEC, and CFP.net to search for your advisor and make sure he’s legit and doesn’t have any derogatory info.

He was with Wells Fargo. I've liquidated the investment earlier this year. And now I'm in a big boy tax bracket, so I'll for sure have to pay taxes on it regardless.
