Johnson used troops against Americans in the 60s
Theres a whole history of the use of troops against citizens of the United States. Lincoln was all time champion in the tyrant division but you said post Civil War.

It is the DOD recently, under the present administration, that amended a directive (a directive that forbids the US military from killing American citizens) to ALLOW US military (under “certain circumstances”) to take up arms and, if necessary, kill American citizens. And guess who it is that will have the power to determine what “circumstances” …………the powers that be in US government right NOW.
