It’s hindsight bias

You don’t crash an economy because of only a few confirmed cases

It’s easy to say what you say behind a keyboard

If you were in a position of power, you wouldn’t have done anything bold either

Everyone acts like Trump was the only one downplaying it, when we clearly have video/tweets from the WHO, Fauci, the NIH, and many leaders from both sides telling people we don't need to change our daily lives. How this all became Trump's fault is seriously stupid, and is the real hoax in all of this.

You continuously refer to Trump talking it down which is correct.

He was also seeking advice form his his then non task force who also played it down.

Where are your comments for Fauci, WHO, media publications, other major politicians that downplayed it?

Trump was literally saying what EVERYONE was saying at the start. That doesn’t make it right but it doesn’t make him alone in it.

That would require that he has the ability to pull people together. He has never shown that in any endeavor he's ever undertaken. He is the divider-in-chief. Plus it would take away from his sophomoric name-calling. fricking embarrassing.

Sounds like someone who is truly amenable to being "pulled together".

Biden is a gaffe machine but I suspect his policy will be far clearer in strategy and consistency than Trump's.

I think A LOT of people would get behind him if he wasn't suck a fricking shitposting a-hole. He has taken away his own ability to gain any consensus on anything. That's what the jizzlapping Trumpbot stooges on this board are fundamentally incapable of understanding.

But at the time we did not know what we were dealing with.

We did see horrible things from a overwhelmed Italian heathcare system and we did not know where this was going.

In a world for grownups this shouldn't have mattered for COVID. If the virus was truly lethal enough to warrant cratering the economy and martial law, it would have cut a path of such destruction on its way here that everybody would have known what was necessary without being told (or sold) on the plan. The shutdown has been a colossal mistake and it shouldn't have been hard to see it coming.

I upvoted your post and don't really disagree, but I will also say this: the experts have not always been correct, either. The projections have been all over the place and their advice has shifted. Don't wear a mask! Wear a mask! Etc.

As one who is FAR from being pro-Trump, I feel he has done a reasonably good job of dealing with the virus while failing mainly on the PR front by going off on tangents in the briefings, which were far too long. I love that he has left many issues to the states, which is consistent with their general police powers. Federalism lives! (who knew?) What I would like to see more of going forward is a calm but steadfast reminder, which he will need to repeat, that he is listening to the experts in their fields but that it is up to elected officials such as the president and the governors to decide what policies to enact. An analogy I like is that scientists built the atomic bomb, but our president had to decide whether to drop it.

What do you mean "we"?

Most states outside of NY and NJ have been just fine with very modest numbers.

Stop looking at this nationally. You have to break it down by region. Florida, the west coast, the plain states, etc have done just fine.

NY numbers are bringing down the whole country, and yes I am bitter about it because it makes us look bad even though california has done so well.
