But even that has been conflated by Christians. Belief in a Supreme being (god) does not mean a belief in divinity (christianity). Jefferson deconflicted that with his version of the New Testament wherein he removed all the mysticism and left in the actual sayings and teachings of Jesus.

all religions are false and their moral codes are 100% invented by men. Just like secular morality, so why do people pretend enforcing one fundamentally different than enforcing the other?
Good things can come from both sides, the either or mentality or adverse approach doesnt move either sides football down the field.

"Western Culture" encompasses a whole lot more than the US in the 1700s, but even if that's all it was, it would still be a fool's errand to attempt to claim that Western Culture wasn't influenced by Christianity and somehow arrived at its moral code from some non-existent parallel path. That's just not a serious position.

You wouldn't know it to read these threads.

I don't claim to have all the answers. My assertion is that you don't have the answers, either.

Buck, you take a lot of crap, but I do find you intelligent and glad you post. Even if we differ.

I pray you find your way back. I fail in many areas but I do think a great thing that has helped me is finally committing to reading The Bible through in a year. I started in Jan 2022. It certainly has helped to better understand things I've heard, but never actually read for myself. That is something I put off way too long.
I suppose it's possible, but I don't see anything happening that could bring me back.
I think everyone should read The Bible. For all its flaws, it's still an important piece of literature that can provide value in one's life, independent of belief.

What a cop out of an answer. Deep down, you know that only a higher power is capable of bringing the universe into existence.

There's no bigger cop out in history than "because a god said."

BS. This is something you still tell yourself because not knowing isn't acceptable to you. It's acceptable to me.

Was it Libertarians that put Bush into the White House or Religious Right?
Posted on 9/15/22 at 4:13 pm to Lakeboy7
If you compare both sides, Libertarians contributed far more to society that religious zealots. Some of the biggest religious folks were socialists.

Because the left would take them and carve them up and to them that’s the moral thing to do.
I actually don’t think you get it.
WTF are you even talking about. Get some help.

During the Bush years the spokesman for the Catholic church went on a media tour trying to convince Republicans that the Catholic Church would switch to supporting Democrats if the Democrats would just change their stance on Abortion. They are FOR all the big government bullshite. Christians invented taxes and big government...

You've obviously spent some time pondering this issue.

It's amazing how far some of you will go to rationalize murdering babies. God (whether you believe in him or not) doesn't take kindly to a society who openly accepts the murder of children.
And God loves the religious right because they took people seeking shelter and shipped them to marthas vineyard rather than treating them according to his teachings?
Give me the rogan bro Republicans all day, the religious right doesnt even follow their own teachings. They only want to use their teachings to force their morals on others WHEN IT SUITS THEM.
The rest of the time they dont even follow them themselves. Get your own house in line and end all pedophilia/molestation/infidelity occuring in churches then you can tell the rest of us how your morals are superior and not flawed.
