re: Hegseth: Christ is King. He died for our sins. We’re forgiven. He will come again in glory

quote:No, but thankfully using profanity in and of itself is not the unforgivable sin. Sanctification is a process that begins at the moment of conversion. If he was converted by the Holy Spirit within the last 10 years, I would imagine his life would look different than it did prior, but not without sin entirely.

Again, I hope Pete is repentant for his sins, past and present.

I do believe Jesus (Truth) will come again. And it will be “in the clouds”. Nuclear and volcanic most likely.

He's not. It's not hard to see.

Does that change the truth of his message?

If he has recently rejected the gospel of Jesus Christ or publicly defended his divorces and sexual immorality prior to his last marriage, then I’ll agree that he seems to be unrepentant or show no fruits of conversion.
Trump, for instance, has recently talked about a works-based salvation rather than salvation by Christ alone through faith alone. If Hesgeth has said something similar, please share it.

No I'm not. Fruits of the spirit are easy to see. It only requires nonbiased viewing

quote:Sin can be easy to see, but all Christians sin, so that makes it hard to judge the heart as-is. There are a lot of spiritually weak and immature Christians who are truly saved but struggle with certain sins like profanity or anger or lust.

I don’t know Trump’s heart, but his public ignorance of the gospel seems to be a stronger evidence than Hesgeth’s recent use of profanity, though I don’t support it and believe that he does need to repent.
I would caution you to not use sins from prior to when Hesgeth himself says he began taking his faith more seriously as evidence of lack of fruits of salvation. The apostle Paul was persecuting the Church prior to his conversion.

You project your wishes onto him. Because it's what you wish to be true. That doesn't make it so.

May be true, but it doesn’t matter. The Truth is the Truth.

Quoting directly from the Nicene Creed:
“He will come again in glory…”
“…to judge the living and the dead
and his Kingdom will have no end.”

I've been hyper critical of Trump due to his statements that have exhibited a total lack of trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of his sins. That casts doubt on all his actions and words, as I see it. I don't know what Hegseth has said or done beyond the little research I did this morning, so I'm attempting to give him the benefit of the doubt based on biblical teachings about sin, repentance, and sanctification.
With that said, I'm not making any judgement about Hegseth's eternal state one way or the other. I don't know if he's trusting in Christ, and if whatever profession of faith he has is legitimate. I'm mostly responding to the worst of the evidences you provided as being from almost a decade ago and prior, before he seems to have had a change of convictions about his own Christian faith. His adultery and divorces were the most concerning aspects of what you listed previously, and as far as I can tell, he's repented of that.

Defrauding charity is pretty serious when you're in charge of the defense department, don't you think?

No. There are witnesses who saw the supposed victim aggressively hitting on Hegseth at the hotel bar. More witnesses saw her willingly walking to his room. It was only after her husband, who was also staying at the hotel, was wondering where she was all night that she conjured up the SA allegations to save her marriage.

What a raging hypocrite.

quote:Yes, that would be serious, indeed. From what I can tell, those allegations were from years prior, and he said as recently as last year that he "truly was changed by Jen and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” and is now a different man." LINK.

Again, I don't know what is and isn't true, but he has publicly admitted to some heinous sins and seems to have repented, stating that he is different now than he used to be due to Jesus, which is a consistent statement with the work of the Holy Spirit.
Do you have any serious allegations of heinous sin committed by him in the past, say, 5 years? He claims to have been changed after he met his current wife (they married in 2019), so it sounds like it was a relatively recent change in his life.
ETA:
I'll add that if Trump came out and said that he regrets his past sins and is trusting in the forgiveness of Jesus Christ alone for his salvation and not his own works, then I wouldn't bring up his past sins at all as an evidence of his current faith, except as a comparison to his new life in Christ.

Isn’t it wild that someone heading “the Department of WAR” is professing to be a Christian? Jesus isn’t exactly pro-violence.
