Isn’t it wild that someone heading “the Department of WAR” is professing to be a Christian? Jesus isn’t exactly pro-violence.
I don't know where you get your information about Christianity, but I would suggest if you are interested, finding a non-progressive church to learn in. My preference would be at a conservative, Reformed Christian church if you can find one.

Jesus' earthly ministry was not focused on judgement. It was focused on salvation and revealing the truth about Himself as the promised Messiah and Son of God to save sinners. However, we are told that He will one day come again in judgement, with great violence, and destroy His enemies with eternal damnation. He even said, "do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." (Matt. 10:28) Here Jesus was referring to divine judgement, which He will impose on the wicked.

In Christianity, the whole of the New Testament is believed to be inspired by God and the words of Paul in the book of Romans, for instance, carry as much weight for the Christian as the words of Jesus in Matthew. Paul, speaking through the Spirit, says in Romans 13 that the state has been given the sword by God to be used for justice. That has been historically understood to support the authority of the civil magistrate to use violence for the sake of civil justice and the protection of the innocent in society. This would also include the just use of war.

We can discuss if a particular conflict is supported by Christian principles, but Christians historically have not been opposed to governments using violence for justice, and even in going to war to protect others and put down wicked and oppressive governments or enemies. All that to say that your specific concern about a professing Christian heading up the "Department of War" is not problematic in itself.
