I am a big fan of this bill passing and hopefully getting adopted into law. How many of you believe that this bill will cause a reduction in Crime statistics? I think criminals will think twice about committing a crime knowing that more citizens might have a weapon on them and are willing to use it.

You’re assuming that the Ds that voted for it would vote to override Dumb Bel’s veto....not so fast my friend....
Yes that was my point in my earlier question.
It sure doesn't seem like a done deal to me if there is still a vote on JBE's likely veto.

The Senate has a Republican majority, the house would need to flip two.
Assuming they drop back to party lines after a possible veto. JBE might not like the look of an override. After seeing both chambers vote bipartisan supermajority for this, hw may just pass it.
Licensing only brings in $5M annually. That's the value he has put on this whole 2A restoration push. Amazes me

How do we get a reciprocal Louisiana permit for travel to other states, similar to Alaska, Vermont and other states that have constitutional carry?
I don't know, but I will be finding out. Mine expires next spring and I travel often. The class may come with a certificate/permit, you may need the current permit.
Also - I assume that we will all be back to background checks to purchase a firearm, which isn't that big of a deal to me, I never had to wait more than 5-10 min.

The current permit IS the permit. I'm not sure the confusion or where I am failing to communicate.
The law is, even with this bill, a background check is required when purchasing from a licensed firearm dealer. No background check is required for private transfers.

The law is, currently, NO background check is required when purchasing from a licensed firearm dealer if you have a CCP that is not a lifetime permit.

I’m not sure why this is so hard for you guys to understand. Hero has explained it multiple times. If you want a permit to carry when you travel, you can still get that and it comes with the added benefit of no background checks. This bill only changes things for people who don’t have permits and now they don’t have to get one to cc while in Louisiana. They will still need a background check because they don’t have a permit. Nothing is changing with background checks.

Once again you are under the impression that criminals follow the law. No criminal, thug, hoodrat whatever you want to call them follows gun laws especially not ones that require them to pay the State Police hundreds of dollars and take a class as most of them are not even allowed to own or be near guns. You are also under the impression that concealed carrying a weapon without a permit is some giant crime. It isn’t so long as you are not a felon. Its a ticket, a misdemeanor. It isnt a felony. Stop overreacting.

Many FFL guys still do the background check anyway.
