It's a trend that has been building for 20 years at least if not longer and you have the Republicans back in 1988 to thank for it, mainly College Republicans.

Beginning with Bush vs Dukakis College Republicans started to see if they could mobilize the youth vote so they found that they could get absentee ballots to College students and would they follow the procedure. The results showed that about 1/3 of the absentee ballots distributed were filled out and cast. This was College Republicans little secret then it went by the wayside but it was still popular for military types and the mail ins proved decisive in Florida in 2020.

That woke up the Democrats to the fact that mail ins .... and early voting combined was very much an unbeatable combination for them. They tested it out in Oregon first and it swamped the Republicans in 2004 there so much so th at I think now Oregon is exclusive mail in/ absentee. Then they moved onto Colorado and it became popular there in 2008 so much so that it changed reliably red Colorado into a Democrat stronghold overnight...als the influx of students at CU and CSU from California over the previous 20 years did not hurt as many went to college there and stayed..

Once they saw that it worked in those two places the idea really expanded. California Democrats also found that there was nothing preventing a harvesting of ballots. Go make friends at Mawmaw's retirement home and offer to distribute and pick up the ballots. Now do that in a immigrant communities and minority neighborhoods and working class areas where people tended not to have time to vote.

The yield increased...a lot.

Dems are lazy fricks who normally won't get up off their arse to vote on Election Day.

The Postal Union is Dem (endorsed Biden)

Is a ripe environment for fraud (per Jimmy Carter and James Baker).

There you go.

I am against any voting setup that does not require an ID being presented to receive a ballot.

Military ballots can be handled on base weeks ahead of time and provided in time to be counted on Election Day, just have them sent early.

Because the Republicans have spent years discouraging it?

To go back to the corn harvesting analogy:

Also imagine that two different fields contain the same amount of corn.
One field is a tight 80 acres. The other has rows spread out over 600 acres. Now they have to be hand picked. Which one do you think is easier and more efficient to harvest?

Just wait until Dems try to allow voting on instagram or other social mediums.

Republicans always had higher turnout on election day but it's become sort of an identity thing since 2020 because that was Trump's position. With all of the bullshite they've spewed since Trump's loss in 2020, the Trump wing of the GOP will never trust anything other than in-person voting (and even then, if your technology reaches the level of Johannes Gutenberg's printing press, they don't trust it).

Precisely. Democrats and their affiliated organizations think like this. Republicans don't.

There is literally no reason the GOP can't, or shouldn't, do this as well/better than DEMs.

I said it leading up to 2020 that this would be why Trump lost and I was right.

2 years later and Republicans (especially the Trump wing) refuse to admit a simple facet of reality.

The problem for Republicans is that they don't have constituencies that they can convince to do this. Republicans don't really have immigrant communities that they reach out to or have associated organizations that can work with to really make this strategy effective for them.

Most Dems are lazy and don’t care about voting, especially in the cities. But you have leaders that do care and so they can harvest ballots of the ones that don’t care, especially if they get something in return for turning in their ballot in the cities…

THIS...it's brilliant and solves the turnout issue for Dems everywhere. Yes it's cheating but no one's going to stop them and where they get away with it GOP candidates are way behind at the get go or votes are found at the end to pull the Dem ahead.

Democrats are street fighters.

Republicans play too nice.

Until we realize we better punch back NOW, we’re going to continue to get our asses kicked.

Republicans telling their constituents that vote by mail is bad.

That's part of it, it has been done to prevent drop boxes full of votes in Republican areas from mysteriously disappearing. A significant number of Democrat voters don't want to vote in person because they are afraid to, either because of fear of Covid, or because they have outstanding warrants. The biggest factor is the machine that Democrats have built up to determine potential voters, and facilitate their voting. People that previously were too lazy, apathetic, or just plain stupid, to vote can have their vote harvested (legally or not) by the Democrats.

You can think it's silly all you want, but in 2020 - in the middle of a pandemic that attacks the elderly - Trump repeatedly advised his supporters NOT to vote remote. So these old people that could have voted in droves, instead, just didn't leave the house. How can we still be asking this question?
That was 2 years ago and one of the times I’ve heard it.

But we’re having a disappointing showing this year. Is it really because people are listening to their leaders and not voting by mail?

More democrats than republicans. So more ballots to harvest. States didn't send mail in ballots to all voters. Blue and swing states all do it now and they get the votes.
