Has anyone else started watching what you say around your phone?

Even around family, I’ve become paranoid about some of our marine corps conversations, and def any texts

Or am I just crazy?

Not really worried about. But I swear I see adds for things I hadn't searched for yet. Just something I was talking about.

I showed it to someone the other day. They didn't believe it was happening either.

Same here. I’m about to be 56 so anything they can do to me doesn’t rattle me like it may have 20 years ago. Frick ‘em.

You do realize that anything with a microphone likely records everything, right?

Have you ever wondered why Facebook comes preloaded on every smartphone and you can't remove it. Even if you don't have a FB account, it's collecting everything.

Today's mobile phones are in fact surveillance devices that can be used to make calls.

I have all that shite turned off. No Siri. No voice activated anything. I don't own any Amazon Echoes or anything like that. It's basically inviting spies into your home with Mics.

If they are listening beyond advertising purposes, you are but one blade of grass in a hundred acre meadow.

Me too, but your phone is still on. Your microphone is still on.

This is real. There isn't some FBI agent listening to your calls or anything like that but your microphone is on, listens to what you say and uses an algorithm to direct ads to your phone involving what you talked about.

Turn off your microphone permissions on all apps. Not that it stops the NSA from collecting it but it will stop the targeted ads.

I'll go you one further, and I'm not even lying. I've seen ads for things that I've just seen or maybe just thought about. Didn't even make an audible mention whatsoever. And the timing and distinctiveness was eerie.

Wish I was joking.

It's listening nonstop, even during phone calls. Prior to removing Facebook and Messenger from my phone a (long) while back, I was on a call with no other devices around and had an ad pop up later that day based on the conversation. Removed the app then and there.

ETA: Those apps also track your GPS. A former acquaintance was in town who lived on the West Coast and we ran into each other. Later that day it was suggested that we be "Friends."

Unless you are putting all communications devices in a sound proof faraday cage, you're still on.
