Handful of House GOP lawmakers open to assault rifle ban

A trickle of House GOP lawmakers have expressed support for or openness to banning assault-style rifles in recent years and in wake of the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas last week.
As a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the Senate discuss potential legislative action on gun violence in wake of the massacre, the House GOP members’ positions show a small yet notable contingent of Republicans in favor of some type of gun restrictions despite the party being largely averse to gun control measures.
Two Republicans, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) and Rep. Chris Jacobs (N.Y.), expressed openness to such restrictions in the aftermath of the Uvalde massacre, which left 19 elementary school children and two adult teachers dead.
??“I have opposed a ban fairly recently. I think I’m open to a ban now,” Kinzinger said on CNN Sunday when he was asked why private citizens need “weapons of war.”
Jacobs said in a press conference and during a Buffalo News interview last week that he would support such a ban, but not confiscation of such weapons.
“If an assault weapons ban bill came to the floor that would ban something like an AR-15, I would vote for it,” Jacobs said.
The Assault Weapons Ban of 2021, which has not received a vote in the current Congress, would ban 205 weapons by name; weapons that can utilize a magazine that is not fixed ammunition and also have any “military characteristics” like a pistol grip, telescoping stock, or threaded barrel; and magazines and ammunition feeding devices that can hold more than 10 rounds. Pre-ban mags and guns fixing to skyrocket in price. Buy what you want NOW

The shooter could have used a single shot rifle and killed the same amount of kids. Guess that's what happens when the Supreme Court rules police aren't obligated to help and an entire police department is filled with pussies.

frick every single one of them. Those in Congress and in the White House have killed more Americans and people, with their agendas and laws, than what any AR-15 could dream of.

For times just like these...

I'm pretty sure any rifle can be used in an assault. Someone needs to tell them that and a couple of other words - slippery slope.

Went to the gun store yesterday to buy shotgun shells. I have seen shorter lines at amusement parks. People are starting to grab up guns, ammo, high capacity mags, etc.

I’m pretty sure you can add Cheney, Meijer, Katzko, and probably a few GOP women to the list.
Ten House Republicans need to join the Democrats to pass the bill.

Kinzinger and Cheney aren’t even republicans at this point.

Anything that is barred to the citizenry cannot be possessed by law enforcement (state or federal)

It grinds my gears to no end when phrases like this are used. I can take any rifle and use it to assault people. This just continues to drive home the point that lawmakers, journalists and others don’t know much about guns.

20 million ARs owned privately.
20k gun homicides in 2021.
if you consider EVERY one unique and inflicted by an "assault rifle" (which is far from the case).
you're looking at a .01 percent chance of death associated with an AR.
what is the likelihood of death associated with any pharmaceutical? a ladder? a chainsaw? a car? a Botox injection? walking down the stairs in your house?
Also... decent bundle at PSA for 10 PMAGs and 200 rounds of PMC 5.56 for 200 bucks.

The kid was barricaded in a classroom for a long time. He could have killed then all with their own pencils during that time. The weapon is irrelevant in that situation.

Kind of off-topic but what is this “long gun” talk these anti-2nd people are talking about? Is it some new thing to make guns sound “scarier”? Or have I just never noticed this “long gun” talk before?

Assault rifles are banned without a special permit.
