Its Mardi Gras in DC, lots of people go. Well, probably not many of the lower middle management types that make up this forum.

Louisiana might be a failed state before California at this point.

Sounds good to me. Have to cut somewhere else for a change.

Edwards has an excellent chance at getting reelected. Things are going well nationally and that impact the citizens of LA. If they are feeling good, they won't rock the boat.

This plus he took over right as the bottom fell out of the energy industry. So that has been slowly recovering and as such so has the state's economy. So for a point in time comparison, LA is doing better since he took over. But compared to where we SHOULD be (and you can look at how other state's are doing much better) we suck rocks.
It is very similar to Obama. He benefited from a natural economic rebound after the recession. The economy improved (somewhat) IN SPITE of him rather than BECAUSE of him.
But he still won another term. I think that is what we are facing with JBE.

Honor Code is the first to use the line item veto as political payback?
Eh. 40 projects totaling 39 million. Which tells me, most of these have no business being funded at the state level. State money should be used for major projects that affect people across local lines.

There is little JBE can do to improve or hurt his reelection chances. No Dem is going to vote against him.
So, it's completely dependent on the quality of the Republicans that run against him.
Steve Scalise would beat him, but I don't believe he will run.
John Kennedy does not excite me.
Who else does the GOP have that can win? Not who will get the support of the far-right Political Talk, but who can actually pull together enough votes and support to win?
Not Landry
Not The Colonel
Not The Policeman
Not a single person currently in the legislature

In a Republican Majority State- House & Senate, the Democrat Governor has the authority of a Line-Item Veto. I don't believe either Chamber currently has the ability to override those vetoes. Just sayin'

The people in Bossier City might take exception to your statement. Fortunately, you have little say (other than you comments) on the lights in Bossier City.

When we eventually write up a new state constitution, we have to take the line item veto away from the Governor.
I agree, but I doubt whatever crop of idiots that writes the thing will have the foresight to take that out.
You are talking about Louisiana Legislators, the bulk of whom think the we have a 'physical session' instead of a fiscal session every other year.

"Vetoed projects include dollars for road work in Acadia, St. Landry, Iberia and Vermilion parishes."
Have you driven around in Acadia Parish lately?
Comparably speaking, rural Iraq would be an upgrade.

How can a state like Louisiana "Feel Good" about being last in all the good categories and first in all the worst?
The economy is booming, except in Louisiana. Unemployment is the lowest in decades, except in Louisiana. More jobs available now than in decades, except Louisiana. Perhaps Democrats "Feel Good" about driving Louisiana deeper into the quagmire of SUCK!!!!!!!
