GOP Extremism Has Made Gun Violence a Part of Americans' Daily Lives
Last month, I toured Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. I joined Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) and three dads who had each lost a child to the mass shooting on Feb. 14, 2018.
It was a place frozen in time—a snapshot of when a gunman entered, opened fire, and murdered 17 people with an AR-15 assault rifle.
Much of what I saw was hauntingly ordinary. The unopened box of Valentine's Day chocolates. The stacks of textbooks. The unfinished writing assignments and the lesson plans scrawled on white boards.
And then there were the signs of a massacre. The broken glass, the bullet holes, and the bloodstains. Each of the three fathers pointed to the spot on the floor where his child had drawn their last breath.
That building is just as it was six years ago. And in a triumph of right-wing obstruction, so is our country.

unless the reins are put on this kind of political rhetoric and propaganda, the end game will be a one party state with imprisoned political enemies and genocide. i dont claim to have the answer, as i am a first amendment near absolutist, but these "journalists" being allowed to say anything they want with complete impunity will end with complete anarchy and violence in the streets. there is no catching feature to prevent it.

Stoneman Douglas happened because Arne Duncan's "Dear Colleagues" email created cracks large enough for someone like Cruz to fall through (by purposely not reporting his repeated and increasingly violent behavior to local authorities).
Stoneman Douglas was a sterling example of the utter failure of Leftwing indoctrination in the education profession.

I think the only thing to do is exactly what this article does: label it as an opinion piece. Then, give equal space for an opposing opinion piece. Publish them both. I don't have a problem with any journalist publishing their personal viewpoints, as long as it is clear to the reader that it is not intended to be an unbiased reporting of the news.

100% agreed, but the problem is that is a good-faith argument, and the current media is not acting in good faith. they put these kinds of editorials out there and push this anti-conservative rhetoric to the forefront in font 140 with a font 6 that says "analysis" or "opinion" in the bottom left. then the opposing piece, if it even exists, is buried behind three links.
so it's not so much WHAT is getting published, but HOW it's getting published.
